okay so I have 2 Libertys one is an extremely low-equipped 2002 Sport 4x2 (only options it came with was the 3.7l and cruise) and then I have an 2004 Sport 4x4 with the usual equipment.

The two wheel drive Sport came with 215/75/16's while the four by came with 235/70/16s. Last week I finally decided to get some new tires for the 4x2 since I have had these tires for the last 6 years and they were getting kinda sketchy (esp on the ice we have been having) I decided to go up to 235's (they were actually cheaper than the 215's)

So after I get the new tires I park the two libertys side-by-side and the 2 wheel drive now sits an inch higher than the 4x4. I don't understand it they have the same size tires now (the tires on the 4x4 have about 3000 miles on them) if anything I woulda thought the 4x4 would sit higher...

You don't have the weight of a front differential, front CV's, or front driveshaft in your 2WD... that may be part of it.

You also have the beefier transmission in the 2WD 2002 - not certain what the weight difference between the 45rfe and the 42rle are.

Or it may be something else altogether.

is your 2002 pre-lowered? if so there you go. I'm sure your 04 is about bagged out like the rest of them. Plus what yellocoyote said.

Plus your 2002 is pre lowered so it will set somewhat higher even being a little older than the 2004

You are all wrong

2 X 4 is lumber
Now 4 X 2 is a 2wd something that is also
offered in a 4wd version

But yes probably pre lowered

Up until April 12th 2002 they were 3/4 of an inch higher
then some idiot rolled one so they lowered them that much to make them "handle better"
so if yours was built before that it was / is 3/4 of an inch taller

In April of 02, KJ's were lowered 3/4", some ******* at an auto magazine rolled one by making a turn at 90 MPH.

Don't mean to hi-jack the thread, but...

Is it just that people can't accept responsibility for their own stupidity and foolish actions, that these sorts of things (lowering the vehicle) take place?

I mean, some throttle jockey, who's used to driving cars with a half an inch ground clearance and floggin' turns at 90 MPH, jumps into a Jeep and without a moment of thought, tried to duplicate a Mazzarri GT/XP15000, twin turbo, super hoopty's (Touring model) turning performance... and promptly ends up on his lid.

After sliding to a grinding halt, he crawls out of the wreckage he's created and scratches his Euro-stubbly chin, he "thoughtfully" decrees... "This vehicle is too tall, is poorly engineered and a danger to every man, woman and child, on earth... it must be lowered immediately."

Sorry for the rant, but I'm so tired of listening to the media bash SUVs and Jeeps for being unsafe, when they're probably some of the safest vehicles on the road... provided they're being driven by someone with a lick of common sense.

And then, the manufactures kowtow to these mugwhumps... Oi vay!

Whooo, I feel much better now.

Test was the during tests done at 45mph at waves, which would be the case when you had to steer left/right in an emergency situation. They lowered about .75 inches overall. If you want to wheel it, you would have to lift it anyway, but with wider tires you end up balancing it out.

Oh... I remember Nader, wadda waste of skin!

Corvairs were hot sleds, I had a '65 Monza Spyder... handled like a slot car. I added a set of axle limiter straps, to prevent the rear wheels from tuckin' under and was good to go...

But just like Jeeps and SUVs now days, ya had to know how to drive 'em. Too many people now are members in good standing of the "Point It and Punch It Club". They haven't the first clue about vehicle dynamics, center of gravity or such...

one of the motors trans etc ended up in a cool little buggy, fun times
I actually met Ralph one day when he was at my Dads farm in 1970 or 71. Nice enough guy to a point but still somewhat whacked

Hmmm, yeah. I personally know of two different Jeeps that were involved in serious collisions. One was a Cherokee/XJ, one was a Wrangler/TJ.

In both cases the Jeep hit the other vehicle. In one case the Jeep rear-ended the other vehicle. In the other case, the other vehicle pulled in front of the Jeep got side-swiped. Both were at low speed.

In both cases the other vehicle was totaled. In both cases the Jeep was repaired and made roadworthy.

In both cases the other vehicle's driver complained of serious personal injury. In both cases the Jeep driver walked away without any significant injury.

'nuff said.
