timing belt replacement

My jeep will be 9 years old next month. The 100,000 mile change of the belt and all, this is going to be another 10 years before I get to that point.
Thinking about having it done, not the mileage but the years. Has anyone else done this?, or am I just worrying about nothing. Also am still running the original battery, any body else or am I asking to be stranded one day.

Unless you have a 4 cylinder or the CRD diesel you don't have a timing belt to replace - the V6 3.7L uses timing chains.

Now if you're talking about the serpentine belt that runs the water pump, power steering pump, alternator and A/C compressor... Yes, that needs replaced.

The original battery...? Wow, that's gotta be a record. Jeeps will do goofy things when the battery starts going bad, so if you start experiencing strange symptoms then replace the battery.

My battery was an original Mopar 72 which made it 8.5 years before it died during the bitter cold of last February. No one wants to buy a new battery before they need to, but I'm with TwoBobsKJ: First sign of flakiness anywhere and I'd swap it out for a new one.

Yes I am talking about my crd's cam belt, it's suppose to be replaced at 100,000 miles.

You might want to research your local area for a FORMER Chrysler dealer. 789 of them were dropped in 2009 after Fiat took over, and most dealer owners lost a tremendous amount of money. Many of these former dealers still have the Miller tools that were specially made to work on the V.M. Motori R428 engine that powers the CRD. This is because Fiat/Chrysler left them holding their entire parts inventory and the specialty tools that dealerships were forced to purchase as a condition of maintaining their dealership status. You can probably pick them up for well under $1000.00 USD.

I am getting a set of Miller tools for myself to work on local Liberty CRDs.

I also know that most of the fault for incompetence in servicing Liberty CRDs lies with Chrysler, not the local dealers; at least up here in Canada. Chrysler has never sent technical people over to V.M. Motori in the U.S. for proper training on the R428. And heads up to those of you looking at purchasing a Grand Cherokee or a RAM 1500 with the V.M. Motori V-6 "Eco-Diesel"... Chrysler has yet to send anyone over for proper training on that engine as well.

How economical can the Eco-Diesel be if it costs $200.00 - $250.00 for a freaking OIL CHANGE??? :favorites68: :shrug:

I'd replace it asap. The recommendation over here is on mileage AND time - 100k miles OR 5 years, whichever comes up first.
