This is annoying...

2006 Liberty, and my traction control worked perfectly fine until recently. I've only ever seen it come on maybe twice in the 8 years I've been driving it. Had a tire change on the back tires yesterday, and now when I hit 30-35 MPH, traction control activates and slows me down. I have to drive on an interstate, so this is really screwing me over. How the heck do I disable it?

Traction control worked fine until you get new tires.....hmmmm. Are the new tires the same size as the fronts? If they are different, there's your problem. Different sized tires are also going to be a problem when the Jeep is put in 4wd, assuming yours is.

....actually. I think they might be. My grandpa had it done, because I'm a moron with vehicles, for the most part. He said that they're only SLIIIGGGHHTLY smaller than the front tires. Like, looking at them, I can't see the difference.

What kind of problems will it give me, in 4WD? Even in the winter, I rarely have to use 4WD, but just in case..

Well, good thing your grandpa got it done instead! :happy175:
Each tire size has it's own revolutions per mile they travel based on their circumference. When in 4wd, the front tires and back tires are essentially locked together. But the fronts and backs will be trying to travel a different distance, causing a bind, and also in your case, confusing the traction control.

All 4 tires have to be the same size or you'll be getting that all of the time

He's a cheap ass with tires, lol. I would buy all brand new ones, but we're in a rough spot financially, and doing what we can.

So is there any way that I can disable this for the time being? I may not be super knowledgeable about vehicles, but I can handle one with enough confidence that I know I don't need my traction control, at least not right now.

If you pull the ABS (anti lock brakes) fuse, it will disable the abs and traction control.
Legal disclaimer: But I'm not going to recommend you disable ABS, as for some instances it can be a safety issue. ABS has saved me more than once from rear-ending someone in a black ice situation, on dry roads or rain, I've never had my ABS activate. Yeah I know, it's not winter....yet, but I know how some of those "temporary" fixes can last longer than you plan. You really do need to have the correct size tires (same front and back) to do things right.

We're going to get them fixed within the next month or two, without a doubt. I really don't want to pull a fuse, though. :/

Wait wait wait, the KJ has traction control?? Ive had my Jeep for 12mths now and all this time thought it didn't have traction control. Ive never seen a dash light for it and it sure didn't work when I came off a dirt road 6mths ago! I was slipping and sliding all over the place! Do you have to be in 4WD FT for it to work or will it activate in 2WD?

Oh, ok thanks. Is there an easy way to determine if my Jeep has it? Its an 05 V6 Renegade. Cheers!

When you turn the ignition to on, you should see the ABS light and the TC light come on if you have the systems. My 05 Limited doesn't have any of them. I don't think TC became a thing till 06.
