Had a fun trail weekend with the Liberty and found out I had the smallest cooling package possible and that I need to clean her up before bed after hitting the mud. On day two, dirty sand and mud from day 1 ruined the tensioner pulley and the only factory electric fan I had. After allot of digging and cleaning we had to tow her out with no power steering, water pump or cooling fans working behind a jeep gladiator. Long story short and some O’Reilly parts we made it home and I’ve been reworking/upgrading the cooling system to the Liberty tow HD kit with a mechanical fan, the new electric fan and hybrid shroud plus an additional 14 inch elec fan I’ve added in the grill that I had to buy to get home. My question is about temps and when or how I should add in the extra fan as a back up to the system. Should I wire it to the high side of the factory 2 stage fan or add a temp sensor and set it at 200/205/210? My goal was to have the factory 2 stage fan be the primary, the aux elec be the next step to try and keep the manual clutch as the last resort and to keep the load off the motor. Also I might add some hood vents. Thoughts or ideas please share.

Manual fan with standard liberty clutch not HD clutch
Factory high low elect fan
14 inch O’Reilly fan

I'm not even sure if the HD factory package /shroud & viscous fan clutch is still available anymore..??
I wonder, if you were to disconnect the temp sensor connector, would it then allow the electrical fan to run continuously at high speed?
Hopefully other members will chime in to help out.

What do you mean you want to keep the manual clutch as a last resort? Im not understanding that.

Once i added the HD cooling, my electric fan only kicks on when using the A/C or the trans is getting hot. It has never kicked on otherwise.

Also, keep in mind, the HD cooling also included a larger transmission cooler.

Couple of thoughts on this cooling issue. 1) Would suggest the second electric fan be run via a temperature sensor ( adjustable ?). Independent in case electronics fail? Tweak on temp to get what you want. My 2003 KJ runs at 195 to 205 at freeway speeds My KJ only has factory electric fan. I think factory thermostat is set to open at 195, so water may not circulate if you try to go below 195? . Mechanical fan- part of factory HD towing package, so good for extra cooling when needed. The thermostatic clutch controls activation, so it's on when clutch activates. About load on the engine - trade off electrical load on alternator (mechanical load) with electric fan or mechanical fan mechanical load?
