So I decided to change my transfer case fluid yesterday and I am stumped. I have the select-trac transfer case. i put it up on ramps and drained out the old fluid. i then filled it up to the point it was leaking out and then backed off the ramps and again filled it until it was leaking out. that is all fine and good.

my issue is that i have read in several places that it should take 3.4 pints and i was only able to get about 2.25 in the case total.

any thoughts on this?

Won't swear to it;think the selec-trac has a sort of torque converter deal in it,maybe it retains a little fluid.

Somewhere between being sane and insane!
Both t-cases have a internal cooler that holds fluid and places where fluid will stay when the drain plug is pulled.Drive it some and drain/refill again and call it good.I think I never got more then 1qt in my 231 when I still had it.

I never measured it exactly but when I've changed the fluid in my SelecTrac it took just over 1.5 quarts - or between 3 and 4 pints.

Do what tjkj2002 said and you'll be fine.

It should be done on a level surface so if the front was on ramps I'm not sure how that would affect it so do like Tjkj says and do a 2nd change.
