I have an 06 kj limited with the 242 select track TC in it. My gf recently rolled it and twisted the frame so I'd like to pull that case and put it in a 05 kj renegade I just picked up that has the 241 command track in it. I've tried looking around elsewhere online, but am still rather confused as to if I need some kind of special adapter or something or if it'll drop right in no problem. Can somebody please point me in the right direction as to what exactly I'll need to make this swap happen please and thank you.

1) you sure your renegade has a 241? If so that means you have a stick shift. jeep didn't put the 242 behind the manual due to claimed torque shock issues, but several have done it anyways.
2) transfer case, front and rear driveshafts, selector handle, should be all you'll need.
3) I'm assuming it wasn't her fault she rolled it, otherwise I'd have made her an EX for crashing one of my rides! :D

No it's the automatic. I've been surfing the web so much on this I guess the numbers were starting to blend together (or that's the story I'm going with lol). So I guess whatever TC that's mated to the 42rle automatic that has the command trac 2hi 4hi n 4lo setup. I wanna drop that for the one in the limited that has the 4 full time option just cuz it'd be more ideal on the road then 4hi.

And yeah you have no idea. She's heard it from me several times. It was my late father's jeep so struck a nerve at first big time. But it's a done deal and just trying to utilize some of the stuff off it to get this renny a lil more road worthy for the weather of northern mi.

Thanks in advance for any info anybody can provide. Till then.

What makes it more road worthy by switching transfer cases?
Good tires and better driving skills do more than any transfer case does.
Full time is for city folk to get down to the convienance store for powered donuts and a coffee after a light snow

Lol love that analogy

I actually liked it in my xj cherokee for gravel roads (high speed) since its basically 'awd'
And liked it for my wife when the weather was in between. I could just leave it in fulltime for her.
That said my kj has the 231 part time only and I don't miss the 242 that much...
