I have a 2004 4x4 with 86k miles. Yesterday, cruising the freeway it went clunk and shifted out of overdrive. I pulled over, turned if off then back on. It will not move.....it's not even in limp mode.
Codes are P700, P740, P715, and P734. I was hoping it's just a solenoid issue, but usually you at least have a limp mode in that case. It acts like a busted input or output shaft.
I've not seen many issues with this transmission at this low mileage.
Transmission has not been pulled, but the diagnosis from the ****** shop is a failed torque converter or front pump. Complete rebuild $1750.....
Due to high cost and apparent easy availability of this trans I called the salvage. According to their computer the 2003-2004 are the same and the only interchangable versions. So, my question is:
-Is the transmission control module seperate from the engine module on this vehicle? (ie I'm trying to find a way to put a 2013 42RLE from a wrangler or other in my 2004 Liberty...you can't find a low mileage 2004 ******).
What keeps me from using a generic 42RLE as a replacement?
