Confirmed no codes at the independent Mopar place I have by me.

They recommended go ahead with early service also. Said it was most likely filter related. He said they have actually seen some of these Mopar filters split and seen issues with the o ring.

I called the dealers around and none have the filter. The last place I talked to I asked about ordering it and they admitted it was on backorder when I asked when it would be in.

So... I am not really a fan of doing an aftermarket filter in the transmission, but has anyone used an aftermarket that worked out fine?

If somewhere sells a good replica I can go pick up I'd do that. I'd feel much better if somebody has a recommendation though. I've seen stuff with other vehicles like the pickup not even being in the factory location. It really ***** to drop a pan and filter, and then find out you gotta return the filter and go hunt one from somewhere else that at least looks like OEM.

The transmission service is a good idea but if the trouble comes back (dash lights too) I'd suspect the C2100. Did you check the voltages at the terminals? Battery may be fine but the connection may be flaky/poor. Especially when you saw the light show come and go when on rough roads. Might cause the connection to vary. I'd remove the battery terminal connectors and clean them well and check the major grounds. Mine have done all sorts of weird things when the connection is bad even intermittently.

Could be a cumulative event with the speed sensor too.

If you've ruled these issues out then disregard this and hopefully the transmission service is all you need.

02blue,

This is interesting to say the least given the list of culprits from the code. I didn't realize. I thought it was just a stored code from when my battery died a while back. I never have any issues with the cable ends on this vehicle. I will check the grounds and so forth and go have it scanned again. Hopefully the grounds are the same locations on 06/07 because I have an 06 service manual and an 07 jeep. I think on mine all the brains for the engine, trans, etc are all in the same box as well which is something I have been thinking about as well. ECM/TCU/PCM. I replaced it a year ago.

Code C2100
  • Vehicle battery
  • Vehicle charging system
  • Faulty Anti-Lock Brake System (ABS) Module
  • Faulty Engine Control Module (ECM)

So my liberty is an 07 with the VLP 42rle.

One week ago on tuesday at dusk I was out. I backed onto the blacktop, shifted in drive and it pulled away. Going down the hill I think before it shifted from 1st to 2nd it revved up. I freaked out, let off, got back in the gas and it repeated. I freaked out like a Nancy, couldn't tell you what I did or didn't do besides get it off the road to see if fluid was pouring out the lines or something.

It was just like as if you bumped the shifter forward into neutral. No issues since. I really kinda thought maybe I didn't shift it all the way in drive or it's getting worn.

Then today Tuesday about the same time I did the same and it did it again. I was pretty ashamed so this time I tried not to be a Nancy. It was going uphill this time though and was kind of a sketchy spot. I pulled it down to 2 and went on until I got to where it wanted to shift and pushed it back in drive. Drove 43 miles home. Nothing out of the ordinary.

On one hand this scares the **** out of me, like maybe it's slipping, or maybe going nutty when it is about to shift to 2nd gear.

But on the other hand, the fluid looks and smells like it always looks, level seems to be OK, etc. No lights on if the trans turns on a light when it has codes? And I have seen this Jeep act really insane when a sensor is going out because it has the ESP traction control and all that on it.

I think it was Autozone where I scanned it with their tool and it printed out rear wheel speed sensor erratic performance. He said it was a stored code so to drive it a bit, and check the wiring loom and come back. Which I have not done yet.

Could this be a fluke from this or something else (seen something else do it for TPS going south)? Or maybe something with the shifter? Or is there an electronic thing on the outside of the trans that shifts it to drive, reverse, etc that could be getting old and slow that needs changing?

Or is this something serious wrong? Transmission controller, PCM, internal transmission issue?

I have searched and searched and can't find ****, despite finding these were used in all kinds of jeeps, and other people describing something similar. But no follow up as to what the issue was.
Dont remember what code it was but my 02 kj did this and threw a code for the speed senser. It ended up being the one on the rear diff, even tho the code was for the other speed senser(according to chrysler). This solved the code and the problem. My speedo was also acting up until fixxed

Yeah mine has the individual wheel speed sensors on all four. I haven't completely ruled out the bad wheel speed sensor as the cause either really. I put the new on on the 11th and hit the road. I have not had the wierd slip again since that first drive after putting it on.

The 07 has a bunch of stuff on it that makes it a possibility. It has the 4 wheel speed sensors, the input and output speed sensors on the transmission and what seems to be a 4 way brake controller. The first time I got in a very sketchy 4x4 situation years and years ago I thought either the transmission was ******* up or the ABS module went nuts. The traction control uses all this stuff to try to prevent wheel spin. You basically have to experience it a few times and get into a position where you are like oh **** and just keep gassing it harder to get the feel for how it works.

It works well if you just keep gassing it. But it is so odd and counterintuitive. What it seems to do is, if one wheel slips real bad it grabs that brake and makes the other side go. That is fine. Where it gets weird at is when you have a lot of slipping being sensed and it starts trying to torque limit. Kinda like if you were giving a manual a lot of gas on a steep hill as you are riding the clutch up just enough not to roll back. It will go up things you can't safely come back down like my avatar pic was an example. It did a 180 switchback at the turn and the whole thing was clay grease mud. But I also backed one rear tire off in a hole a few times and ended up with 3 tires off the groand one front tire touching and didn't have to call a in a tow. Just put it in 4x4 and gave it a lot of throttle and it pulled right out. But they could have just started putting lockers on them instead of all this integrated **** that can go wrong.

When the first sensor went, my wife called me frantic and said the damn thing won't MOVE! She got it to the side and turned it off. When I got there and cranked it up it was wierdy when I went to take off but not full slip. Then the dash lit up like a christmas tree... ESP DAS ABS Traction Control. As long as the lights were on it was fine. But if they reset at any point it would go weird right as the problem was detected then bypass after the light came on. Turned out to be a front wheel speed sensor.

There is really no telling. There is too much **** on this thing. Only time will tell and I will probably have already done a few more things along the way and if it never slips again I won't really ever know.

OK so is anyone aware of what the "reset mileage" is for the ABS/BAS/ESP/Traction control is?

The lights went away probably in less than 100 ft or at whatever MPH it self checks. But I am wondering how far you really have to drive in miles for all that to reset?

I am asking for 2 reasons.

One is the lights have not came back on at all since changing the right rear wheel speed sensor. And the last little glitch out of the transmission was a few miles into that first drive after changing it. It's been over 3 weeks and hundreds of miles. Starting to think maybe that was really the problem and the last little experience I had with it was while everything was still gathering it's whits?

Two is that I stopped in an autozone because I was right beside one at my break time and had them re-scan for codes for me as some of them have scanners that can check engine abs transmission on our jeeps and this was one of them. They pulled the same 3 codes I had before related to battery and ABS. Are these just saved in memory and I need to go back to the Mopar shop and ask them to clear the codes out? Or does it take a certain number of key turns or like 1,000 miles for them to clear.

How exactly does a “Nancy” freak out? Who even says shit like that anymore? The 1950’s called and want their ignorant homophobia back.

Wow, just wow!

OK so for starters, Nancy as in a girl. No pronouns, just a girl named Nancy that identifies as a girl and acts like a girl.

In this particular scenario, I was using that term as in I freaked out like a little girl. Little easier to type.

So what does ME poking a little fun at MYSELF have to do with YOU or IGNORANT HOMOPHOBIA?

I will clue you in. NOTHING. All of it is completely unrelated except YOU and IGNORANT.

You could have maybe made the argument that I was being sexist in saying that and you took offense, if you were a girl. But still that would be kind of a stretch. But I would of still said OK yeah, not all girls freak out when their car revs way up and stops moving. There is probably even a Nancy somewhere that would not have freaked out at all. She might have calmly crawled right under it and checked it out on the side of the road. And there are probably several girls named Nancy that are better at wrenching than me too.

If that triggered you then you clearly have issues, but your issues are not with me. Why? Because you don't know me from Adam. Oh whoops, did that trigger you too? I realize both are gender specific names generally speaking. Sorry if that bothers you. It was just my way of saying you don't know me from any other guy typing on the internet, and for all you know I could be gay and you could be calling me homophobic although nothing I typed was homophobic. If you stretched it far enough you might call it sexist, but not homophobic.

Life is short, wipe your nose, rub some dirt on it and get on with it. Nobody comes here for this crap. We come to talk Jeeps. This area is specifically 02-07 KJ. If you want to discuss that other nonsense, go sign up at a forum for those topics.

To update, yesterday was 4 months since replacing the ABS sensor.

I have done nothing else but that.

The codes did eventually clear on their own. I am not sure if it is mileage or key cycles. All I know is the lights went out, codes stayed for ABS and battery and were there for a rescan. When I found time to take it to have them cleared at a Mopar shop they were already gone.

So far, so good. No other similar hiccups. Knock wood, keyboard, shifter, etc. Transmission hasn't done anything weird since.
