There are a few who run them or have ran them. The front one tends to make the steering want to return to center more than it would without one. If you hang a wheel in the air, it won't make the other wheel grab, as there needs to be some tension to make the limited slip work. Easy fix is to apply some brake pressure. TJKJ used to have them, and a few others run them now, who can better explain how they behave. I plan to put them in mine.

I ran a DTT in the front of my KJ when I still had IFS.Did great,it was a true "point and shoot" type of driving on snow/ice with 4wd engaged.I did not have one in the rear,I opted for a ARB.If you install one in the front you will notice the "return to center" feeling more forceful but you will not notice it after a week or so and it does not wear your tires or damage your driveline at all.

Hi,

First post here, be gentle :)

I happen to have both an SH Subaru Forester and a KJ. Just for the record, the Subaru is open diff both front and rear.

The KJ got DTTs both front and rear. The "return-to-center" urge was quite heavy the first probably 100km, then it "relaxed" a bit. It is still there, but I got used to it. Also, on high friction roads (asphalt, concrete), I sometimes have the feeling the car initially resists the attempt to turn, and then almost over steers and drags you in the turn, but this might be because I've also put spacers which change the way the tyres move when turning.

Off road, I'm very happy with the Truetracs, especially when climbing dirt/gravel -- definitely less wheel spin and you can control speed better. I'm not into extreme off-roading, though, so I haven't tested and I don't know whether they will be of good use e.g. in deep greasy mud.

As mentioned above, minimal traction is needed for the DTTs to work. A tree took away the KJ rear left taillight just two days ago because the car slipped and bumped into it after spinning the rear left tyre on one of its snow-wet roots (so small you wouldn't be able to trip on it otherwise). The right tyre did not spin at all, as if I had an open diff. So, one thing proven for a millionth time -- LSD or not, if you have winter, get winter tyres :)

So Troy, with a DTT in front can I still use my 242's FullTime setting? I've gotten conflicting info on that - and the way this winter has gone I've kept my KJ in FullTime mode for a week or more at a time since the roads here and where I travel have been crap half the time. And if they're not crap at the moment they will be shortly when the next storm rolls through...

Yes you can still use fulltime even on pavement. It will act just like a LSD does in the rear when you drive on pavement but of course it's in the front.

You might get a uneasy feeling in the steering wheel though if you break traction on the front wheels at speed then regain traction. Predictable if in the rear but can be a little funky feeling when in the front.

I've been away from the area too long jo6pack to suggest a place. If you're in the proximity of La Crosse, then you might find a shop there.

Midwest Offroad here in LaX is a bunch of a$$hats. They can't wrap there brain around anything that isn't solid axle with Rancho suspension. I've given up trying to explain that the KJ is still a JEEP and can be more than the soccermom mobile they think it is.

There was a great place up near Eau Claire (1.5 hrs north) but they went out of business due to the owner/operators health issues.

Jeep dealer just wants to sell me the OEM LSD.

A coworker s part of a local 4x4 club, so he is checking with some guys to hopefully find a place. But since he is a bit of a Wrangler snob, I don't have much hope there either.

There are more places then just offroad specialty shops.Any good ****** shop will work on axles also and they don't care what you drive.

Yes, I have the 242 transfer case. I use it in full-time (awd) mode all the time and switch to part-time high or low if needed, then move back to full-time. I have not identified any issues (other than what was discussed so far).

Sweet - thanks Troy. The DTT just moved up a couple of spots on the mod list :waytogo:

DTTs are on my list, just need business to pick back up a bit first. Found a place online that sells the front DTT for $389 I think, $590 for the rear I think. Only thing I'm trying to decide, winch or DTTs first.
