I've had my KJ a month now and am wondering just what it has.
I't's an 02, black, limited. I've looked under and seen a trans and gas
tank skid, front and rear tow hooks, but am curious as to what kind of
trans, ect. it has. Is there anyway I can find this info out?
BTW- 17 MPG is an improvement to me.:)

Look on the Jeep site. What they have now, short the ESP system, is probably what you have. All you have to do is count the shifts as the auto goes thru it's work to know which auto you have, they put both in, but mostly 4 speeds. There were a few 35 rear ends instead of the 8.25, but not many. The vast majority will be 8.25 rear end, Select Trac transfercase( has full and part time 4WD), 4 speed auto. You can get a build sheet from DC with your VIN #.

I didn't think your Grand Cherokee would have given much worse mileage than the Liberty, but WOW. Figured you were also driving some old '80s Ford truck or something.

Or an Dodge truck. Same engine. ;)

Yes, a V8. Same type of engine. Anyway, those older Fords were notorious for single digit MPG numbers. That's why my cousin's F-150 has been sitting in the backyard for years. Looks perfect though, he still drives it every once in a while. I should really tow it back home next time I'm down there, LOL

I meant it has the same engine as a Dodge truck of that time period...they ran the 318 for quite some time...my dad sees those same gas milage numbers in his '98 Ram, with the 5.2, sometimes worse.

Somewhere between being sane and insane!

I had a '84 F-150 that only got like 2mpg,it had the 351 windsor with the rare 4 barrel intake. It did get about 12mpg before I put those 4.88 gears in it.It could pull a house down,I sure miss that truck.

Um, what? Ford and Dodge never shared engines.

Either way, those were gas hogs, especially the carburated versions. People who complain about the mileage out of a modern V8 must have forgotten how horrible it USED to be. :D

Slightly off topic, but yes Marlon - I had a '96 Bronco 5.0L. The best I ever got out of that truck was 13 mpg. Most of the time it was 9-11 mpg.

Was it white? :D :D :D :D :D

Man after the whole OJ thing, I wanted that White Bronco for YEARS. Then I eventually understood my family's distaste for Fords.

My 80 CJ5, may she rest in peace, had a 4" lift, 33" dunlop R/R tires,
a Chevy 400CI small block with a 4 barrel Edelbrock carb bolted to a T-4 ****** tha could and routinely did:D EAT Mustang GT's and Corvettes off
the line. 0-35,40 anything was MINE. After that their gearing caught and past me. Point is it also got 5-7 MPG. Mid 80's, gas was relatively high,
got married, need I say more??? But like my sig says "I miss that one!"

Heh, I've heard about the high gas prices of the early to mid '80s. Just think, my mom was driving a Chrysler Cordoba at the time.... with the Chrysler 400CI V8......OUCH. She got rid of it and bought a Dodge Omni... to this day she hasn't had anything as fuel efficient as that... and I've NEVER had anything fuel efficient at all. :D

Well, I took your advice and went to the dealer today after work.
After finding out none of the salespeople knew what a
"build sheet" (options report) was, went out to the sevice area.
Talked to the s/writer (good guy) that advised me my
battery was bad and asked him for one.
Took my vin and 60 seconds later he gave it to me and said have a nice day!
Makes me feel good to know that someone that doesn't even know you
can be nice to you and not even make any money from it.
Could be just shmoozing, but I'll choose this dealer over another.

Another interesting thing, I have an '02 built 6/01.
I thought the production year started in mid July.
And when did they go ABS, and 4 wheel disc?
I have neither, but did on my '95 ZJ.
