I have an '02 KJ 4x4 sport. Just under 75k miles. A couple weeks ago I had to have the rear pinion gear and the x-fer case flange replaced. I now have this weird noise in my rear end.

It is a deep humming or rumbling noise. I suspected it was my wheel off balance because of a bunch of mud and rocks inside the rim, but I cleaned all the rims out and it is still happening. The weir thing is it ONLY happens under light acceleration from 49-53 MPH. It isn't a constant rumbling, it sounds like its rotating. I don't think it has anything to do with the new parts, just wondering if anyone has any thoughts.

Check the u-joints on the driveshaft for play. Jack up the back wheels just enough to get them off the ground. There should be zero vertical play in the u-joints...if there is vertical play, replace them.
