Well, my daughter wrecked the KJ

You could have the airbag data retrieved and see what the cars computers and acceleration sensors detected.. it'll show why or why not airbags were or weren't deployed.

I remember reading an article stating that on this generation of airbag systems, it basically takes a collision equivalent of hitting a brick wall at 35mph to trigger them.

The fact that the driver walked away from this without major injury would seem to indicate that the crash itself clearly was not severe enough to cause harm, so the fact that the airbags did not go off would corroborate that.

It may just look worse than it really is since its all the front end plastic bits that are destroyed the most.

That would be very interesting to have the data retrieved and results analyzed.
The Kj's were crash tested using the direct frontal barrier & before the offset crash test was implemented.
Even though I can not find the specific parameters of at what speed the vehicle must be traveling to activate the airbag, 30 mph is mentioned from the FSM as below.

The Occupant Restraint Controller (ORC) determines
if a frontal collision is severe enough to require the
airbags to inflate. Based on the level of collision
severity, the front control module determines the
proper rate of inflation. The front airbag inflators are
designed to provide different rates of airbag inflation
from direction provided by the ORC. The ORC may modify the rate of inflation based on the occupant size
provided by the Occupant Classification Module. The ORC will not detect roll over, or rear impacts.

Typically, the vehicle occupants recall more about
the events preceding and following a collision than
they do of an airbag deployment itself. This is
because the airbag deployment and deflation occur so
rapidly. In a typical 48 kilometer-per-hour (30 mileper-
hour) barrier impact, from the moment of impact
until the airbags are fully inflated takes about 40
milliseconds. Within one to two seconds from the
moment of impact, the airbags are almost entirely
deflated. The times cited for these events are approximations,
which apply only to a barrier impact at the
given speed. Actual times will vary somewhat,
depending upon the vehicle speed, impact angle,
severity of the impact, and the type of collision.

The Jeep was still rotating when it hit the wall. Not sure what affect that would have on the airbag sensors. When she hit her head, it was on the side pillar.

The reason why is the sensors are tied to speed, its a theory I've been working on in situations where this is a flaw that is ignored due to it being a ''Minority Report'' of the SRS being tied in with the speedometer.

She doesn't remember but probably.

AS is the case with 99.8% of drivers who've not had a performance driving, car enthusiast background. Or at the very least a few close calls in a lifetime of driving (experience).

That's why they invented anti lock brakes!! :happy175:

it doesn't look to me like she hit head on, but more sideways starting with the pass front? that may be why the srs didn't deploy.
