I bought the KJ for a little over $5200 with 120K miles and lots of leaks – which the dealership (Go Chevy in Denver) is addressing tomorrow.
She was born back on 8/25/01 with the 3.7, the auto, the 45RFE, the command-trak, and the taller springs.
She rides nice for having so many miles.

Now for a question…
How bad does this front end look like it is sagging?

Nice KJ.

The front looks very low. Looks like mine in fact, and my suspension is toatally bagged. Measure from the center of the wheel to the bottom of the flare to get a good idea how bad it is. My understanding is that ~19" is stock height. Mine sits below 18:icon_cry:

Hey Yawl - thanks for the welcome.

I measured and they are...
Front = 18-1/2"
Rear = 19-1/2"

Since this is a '02 should those numbers be 3/4" more?

Should the front and rear measurements be the same? On some cars/trucks the front wheel well is taller/bigger.

BTW - The tires are P225/75-16. (Wrangler ST)

Heh heh .. we can all spot those tires a mile away... and in the best case scenario that's how far they should be from your Jeep. I have nightmares that prompt me to run to the garage to be sure that I replaced those things! lol

Not sure what the stock measurements from center of wheel to bottom of fender flare should be for an 02. They are pre-lowered and 3/4" higher than later years. There is a rake on them stock though but your pic looks like the front springs are sagged some. Time for a lift/new OME springs and Bilsteins .....hehe.

I hear you. Unfortunately, these tires still have some tread left on them - I will most likely wait till next Fall to replace them.

This Jeep will mostly be driven by my daughter while she attends CSU here in town, starting in August.
I will most likely just use stock springs and shocks from RockAuto (with a spacer or two).

So far this Jeep has required a bunch of work and still requires a bunch more which will keep me busy for several more weekends...

In the CARFAX Report you can see where the first owner (4 years) did perform regular maintenance and the second owner (5 years) did not (at least not at a service center). He let things go that I am now needing to fix. Good play on his part to save the cash and just trade it in.

Does the LBJ recall affect the 02? If so, you'll need to check into that.

See, that's the difference - I used a hose to suck it out of the bottle. Using that hose made it a service.


And actually, I did not put it in the tank – it went in the intake via a vacuum hose. And boy did I get some looks from the neighbors on Saturday – both in my driveway and as I drove down the block. Smoked like a ****. She thru a CEL due to all the fouling going on.

I looked up the VIN and that recall is still outstanding. Got an appointment this Saturday to take care of it.

Hey All – So over the past week, I worked on the following…

Perform Safety Recall – “F23 – Lower Ball Joints”
- Completed by local Jeep Dealership

Perform four wheel Alignment
- Dealership would not include this with the recall. I tried to get them to include this using the argument that any time you replace a suspension part you must also perform an alignment. They would not budge. errrrrr

Clean and Polish Headlights with Mothers Restore kit
- The outside of the headlight lens now looks a little nicer. Now it is clear to me that the fogginess is on the inside of the lens.
Can the lens be removed so I can try to clean/polish the inside? Or is it a sealed unit?

Sand Down Touchup Paint to Match Surrounding Surface
- Some of the rock chips I touched up have faded away. And some I did not build up the paint enough – but those spots look 90% better.

Perform Clevis Lift – 3/8
- Completed

Replace Leaking A/C Condenser
- Completed – only took about an hour.

Install Floor Mats x4
- Completed. 68$ from the local Jeep Parts Dept – with the JEEP logo

Fix Driver Side Seat Recline feature – Replace Seat Latch
- Would cost about $200 in just parts to fix. errrrrrrrr This fix will need to wait.
