What is it? That elastic thing on the side of the console?

I have been wondering about this since I bought my 2008 Liberty KK new. This forum seems the right place to get an answer.
My Jeep has a piece of elastic, factory-built, across a well in the side of the console on the driver's side only. This I just below the center console level. It looks like it is meant to keep something out of the way of the driver's legs, but WHAT ? I can find no mention of this in the owner's manual. I have tried to use it to hold maps, but they fall out. The elastic is too weak to hold a weapon; too narrow to hold an energy bar. I thought it might be a handle, to pull out for access to the inside of the console, nope.
What is it ?

It's used to hold whatever will stay there. Mine holds my CB radio.

I can barely remember last week, much less back that far. Besides, when I was of High School age I was busy serving under General Sherman on our way to Atlanta. :biggun:
