Hey guys! I'm not a mechanic but I'm definitely pretty experienced in working on cars and I'm trying to help out a buddy of mine. His Jeep V6 Liberty (not sure the year and it's too late to ask him but I'm going to guess 2010ish) started making this rattling noise at the front of the engine and it looks like the water pump pulley is loose but I'm not sure if that is the problem or if it's unrelated but here's a video. It definitely sounds like it's coming from there but I can't say for sure. Everything else looks ok. Is that even the water pump pulley that is wobbling? The noise is only on idle.

Any help or information as to what that noise may be would be greatly appreciated.

Needs a water pump ASAP. That ticking sound is the impeller hitting the timing cover and pump housing. It's putting metal in the system and could damage the timing cover. 30 to an hour job. Use only HOAT coolant and distilled water.

Wow that definitely sounds like a WP about to self destruct and it is not leaking yet?
How many miles are on your Jeep?
Probably a good time to install a new Mopar Thermostat while there, even new hoses.
Also the tensioner & belt could be on the list, if they have never been done before as well.
Here is an interesting water pump brand thread/link: http://www.jeepkj.com/forum/f196/water-pump-brand-suggestions-60509/

Thanks for confirming my suspicion guys! The noise literally just started happening and you can't really see in the video but the inside half of the belt is wet and the inside part of the pulley is wet too so it probably just started leaking. It's my friend's Jeep and it has 137k miles. Just got the water pump and about to start installing. Someone mentioned using HOAT coolant and distilled water, it's a 50/50 mix like usual right? Anything else about the water pump replacement that I should know about? Appreciate the help guys!

I went to AutoZone and couldn't find any HOAT Zerex coolant but the guide they have there said that Prestone 50/50 was fine so that should be good right? It even says "Guaranteed for all cars" on the bottle so I'm sure it won't damage anything.
Thanks, me too. And thanks for the link too!

no. don't do it.

Autozone doesn't have HOAT.

go to either o'reily,NAPA,pepboys, advance/carquest.

Zerex G05 is what you will be looking for.

As PM, I would change the T-stat and hoses.

I am having a HARD time getting the old pump out and new one in... I can't figure out how to remove the coolant and windshield cleaner reservoir and fan shroud and I can't find any instruction on removing it. I just see the 2 7 or 8mm screw bolts up top but the bottom sides are still attached somehow. Still trying to figure it out....there is surprisingly NO room to work...

Edit: NVM, GOT IT! :D

did you replace the tensioner & belt?

IMO old/bad Hoses love to burst after new antifreeze is installed!

My heater hose blew up last week! Look for swollen bloated hoses.
I just changed them all (Amazon).
