What the? Tire size: 225/70-16?

So I need a new spare tire cause the one on there is bad. I would like to get one that is the same as the ones on my Jeep as they are still okay. BUT apparently the previous owner purchased Firestone Destination LE 225/70R16 (which is what the 4 on my Jeep currently are). But I have never seen this size used on our rims before... is it safe? What is the closest approximate size? Or will I be okay sticking with that size until I replace all 5? The Jeep is not lifted or anything. An 04 Sport with the Aluminum 6 spoke rims... should be visible in my Avatar over there <-----

It should be fine. I see a lot of libbys on 225/70. I could be wrong, but I think that's the recommended size according to the door sticker of the CRD?

225/70R16's are the wrong size for any KJ.For the 16" rims selection OE tires sizes are 215/75R16,225/75R16,and 235/70R16.

Stock tires suck. How much grip you going to get with 4400lb SUV and 225's...I was going to leave it at that but I am in a fowl mood over tires.

The first thing I did was replace the stock tires into 4 -245's silent armors (ya I still have stock spare) but what the the heck, until it was lifted I had no idea what I could stuff in there, with 17s and now spacers to get rid of rubbing. I still want to know if I can now put 5-MTr's 265's 70-17 on it without banging the crap of the pinch welds. Or even 245-75-17's.
I wonder if I could find a tire store that would let my try out a a pair up front.

Damn I wish Jeep would have designed this rig with 32's.+

Our KJ had Hankook Dynapro ATM 225-70-16's on it
when we bought it and Jen and I drove on them for 3 years until they
were totally worn out.
They were very good tires.

Yes you can run 245-75-17 (31.7" tall) or 265-70-17 (31.9" tall) M/T R's
but you will need to do the pinch welds,
cut/trim the inner fender liner as well as reshape the fog light door area.
You will also have to regear to 4:10's. Especially due to the fact that you pull
a boat.
A 245-70-17 (30.7"-30.8" tall) would be a better size.

My question is why?
The tires you have are good enough for what you use your Liberty for.

Tell you what, buy some 16 inch wheels and I'll sell you our one and a half month
old M/T R's.
They only have 3485.3 Kilometers/2165.7 miles on them.

I am currently running 235/75...they are a little smaller in diameter than 245/75's, but taller than the 245/70

235 vs 245 is the width... not diameter.... 245 is wider than a 235
75 is taller than 70.

Well for what it all mattered, I went and ordered 2 what I thought were Firestone Destination LE 225/70R16 and I screwed up and ordered Firestone Destination LE 225/75R16... haha. So now I'm ordering 2 more of the 75's and am calling it even. Back to a stock size, yay!

The 225/75s are almost a full inch taller than the 225/70s. I think that was a lucky "screw up"
