For those that have a CB, could you post pictures of where you mounted it. I was thinking of puting one in but I don't want it to be an eye sore.

Been a while...

To the left of the radio, under the temp gauge, right of the steering column with industral strength velcro.

Pics have been lost for some months now.

what do you guys do with your CBs? do you drive so far out that you need it for rescue or you just want to tap into police frequency and see what's going on around, or just easy communication with other family members/drivers/jeepers? Sorry, being a NY never got into this.

I actually use mine in rush hour traffic. If there's a jam, I turn it on, and listen for the truckers to tell you which lanes are open. And because I'm a weather geek, I got one with NOAA radio. I have the Midland portable unit, and still haven't figured out a decent way to mount it, so it just sits in the cupholder for now.

So CB Scanner, there you go =P~

I wouldn't mind getting one but I park on the street, so not a bright idea for me.

Both the CB and the scanner are portables. I bought the CB when I got the Lib, because it was on sale and seemed like a Jeep thing to do. But the scanner is my trusty yet ancient racing scanner although I also used it a bit for entertainment when I lived in my old apartment. I was surprised at some of the stuff I could pick up.

I know what you mean about the street parking. I used to live in the city and had a Wrangler years ago. It got broke into so many times, I stopped locking it so the theives didn't tear it up breaking in.

That's the reson I didn't buy wrangler, I started out as wanting to buy a full loaded wrangler, than decided not to because A) it was very cold in winter because of drafty soft top B) was too small for me and C) Scared of break-in.
Later decided to buy Grand Cherokee, but with all the options I could get on Liberty was up to 42K, so I decided to get fully loaded Liberty! :) And I am very happy with it.

As for CB/Scanner/Transmitter, etc.. Radio Shack has a lot of them, but I don't think I would carry them with me every day, so unless there is a tiny handheld ones that can pick up just as much with internal antenna, I am not into them yet.. Plus NY laws are crazy, I am not sure which frequencies are reserved, etc..

You can't pick up the police on a CB. CB= Citizens Band.

I have mine mounted on the right side of the hump, angled back a little. It's a Galaxy DX-959 moded to have about 140 channels. It has AM & SSB. It has talked from CA to Cleveland and many other long distance contacts. It puts out 12 watts on AM and 18 to 20 on SSB. A very good radio with 6 digit frequency readout.

Terry...1st. POST!!

Thanks for the welcome and the link to this site =D> It's a lot of fun using the CB. I made to Ireland one time but that was using the base and using a LOT of extra power.

No problem, glad you liked it here. LOST is good, they are mostly technical, we like to fool around here, so be prepared for a lot of crazy talk here. :D

Well, if I can ever get a garaged house, then I can consider this CB until then, not really useful for me.

My company has offices in Midtown, so I score a free trip to NYC a few times a year. Most of the guys I work with up there live over in NJ, but one of my buddies just bought a place in Queens.

Sorry to butt in - how about say 4 walkie talkies carried around with you, and hand them out when you offroad?

That could work as long as they are full power units. The problem is they don't normally get out very far. Ask around and see if anyone has a pair that you could try before buying. Deer hunters use they sometimes.

I'll check around to see if anyone still makes a quick disconnect for mounting CB's. I used to have one. All you did was put in a key, unlock the 1/2 of the bracket the radio is on and slide the radio out. Power and antenna and the radio are all disconnected. Just take the radio to the house or work.
