Your Opinions on My Idea

Well as that title says I have had an idea for some time now and am currently
working on developing it provided there is a customer base for it.

The general idea is this.

A stick on clear vinyl that coats doors, fenders and any other body metal to
protect from light scratching caused by brush, branches and road debris.

Where I live we are constantly driving through brush. Our jeep looks like
Freddy Krueger plays with it... I was friends with a guy back home who
specialized in full body wraps. He would measure all the body panels and
then print/cut a long sheet of vinyl. You then was the car very well and
install the
vinyl covers.

If this works it will cost about $800 for a full vehicle wrap, you could buy
just doors or just bumpers or what ever your fancy is. Its mostly for doors
and quarter panels (flat surfaces).

The good thing about it is one you want to sell your vehicle or if you are
done with off-roading (or in my case move to a better location) you just
peel it off and you have a perfect (as perfect as it was before installation)
paint job.

So what I want to know is what do you think about the idea? Would you
even consider buying a product like this?

I've seen the clear bra stuff like that but its mostly for the hoods and its usually thin. I guess I should have mentioned We are looking at getting some very thick vinyl.

the material im looking at is UV resistive. It should last for many years.

Make it in black and throw in a couple cans of cooking spray, and Mr. Snorkel Envy aka "Number Deuce" would be your first customer.

Are you sure you can remove this vinyl cover without any harm to the paint? As far as I know if you have sticker, for example, long enough it is hellowa hard to remove it. But in general this is good idea. Trophy vehicles are usually protected by multiple vinyl stickers

a hair dryer or heat gun can help remove old stickers that are stubborn. the same goes for vinyl wraps. the question becomes how "tight" the wraps you're thinking of having made are. one of the reasons vinyl wraps cost so much is the install can be a total bear. if your guy were to cut them such that things like the door handle openings had a little bit of extra clearance it might make the DIY aspect easier for people. just thinking out loud.

There is a company called 3M that markets a product called VPS. Basically the same as what you describe. Works well in S.Africa on the Porche's and Lambo's and Range Rovers.
Cant see why it will not work there.

But to market a product of $800 on a forum with 80% op people looking for cheap fixes is not going to help you much.

I appreciate the comments. I didn't think this was going to be main stream. It just started as an idea for myself and others seemed to like the idea. I know its expensive but its definitely cheaper then a paint job. And right now my jeep could use a paint job. I wish I would have thought of this earlier. I will keep everyone up to date.

It's a good idea. The main issue I see is the natual fading of the paint over time. If the vinyl is UV resistant the areas under it will not fade as much as the uncovered parts of the vehicle. When it is removed later, the difference may be quite noticable.
