CRD engine rattling
So if a rocker wore it could rattle and make noise without necessarily failing? I can't hear it in the valve cover though, it seems deeper in the engine.- Btownpreacher

What did you do to your jeep today?
I've recently seen 3 CRD Libertys in the Oklahoma City area; mine makes four of them. Two of the other three are completely stock, but the third one is a really nicely built red limited. I rarely see upgraded Liberties around here.- Btownpreacher

New theory: sticky valves or failing valve springs. I had a buddy listen to it and he was surprised that the engine was still running for the amount of noise it was making. Unfortunately it’s my daily driver and I don’t have any alternatives. I’m catching rides as much as I can but it’s still being driven some. Noise started before I worked on it and I replaced all of the pulleys and the water pump. I have used a stethoscope extensively and I can’t hear the noise coming from the valve train. I took the oil filler cap off and I can’t hear any difference. It’s coming from much lower down in the engine...- Btownpreacher

CRD engine rattling
I’ve mentioned this before in previous posts, but my 05 CRD has developed a bad rattling noise. It’s gotten drastically worse over the weekend and after inspecting it today it sounds like it’s either the oil pump or the fuel pump. Where are the manual diesels? As far I know in the USA the CRD wasn't optioned with a manual; the manual in the liberty isn't strong enough for CRD torque- Btownpreacher

The 4cyl needs the extra power so they get 4.10s. My diesel has 3.73 , and if I remember the v6 gets 3.55 or 3.73- Btownpreacher

I don’t get it being over boost. Everything indicates that it’s running rich, and most of my issues started after I installed the lift pump in the fuel tank which raises the fuel pressure.- Btownpreacher

Anything in particular to look for on the vacuum lines? They seem intact and I believe they are holding some vacuum pressure, perhaps not the full amount tho- Btownpreacher

Thanks bro. it makes sense now. unfortunately I'm out of work and dead broke right now so it'll take me a few weeks before i can potentially buy anything. I cleaned the MAP, MAF, and cam sensors this afternoon and it drives slightly differently but not necessarily any better.- Btownpreacher

Mine made the same noise a while back and I never knew what it was until one day the rear joint on the front driveshaft blew up. It torn the rubber out and spit the bearing balls out of the joint. had to limp it home, and remove the driveshaft so that i could drive it to work while I waited for...- Btownpreacher
