I bred Burmese cats at home for many years....had to put my last 2 down about 3 years ago as they were nearly 20 years old and tired.
I live now in a Retirement Village, so no cats allowed!
Miss them like crazy! :(
During my working days I traveled to Germany many times for training on Hitachi Computers...also 2 trips to Japan! So I made a point of teaching myself German!
All this did for me was to confirm my suspicion that the Germans are the most arrogant and self-centered nation in the world...
Put a Voltmeter over the Glow plugs to see what voltage you get with respect to ground while cranking!
You can expect to some voltage drop but it should not go too low!
The winters here in South Africa are usually not too cold....I disconnected all the Glow Plugs and could still start my 2002...
Here in South Africa there is no such thing as a MOT test!
I have had my 2002 KJ CRD for 21 years now and the only time it would ever get tested is if I sold it....the Buyer has to then take it to be tested and Road worthied!
We therefor see plenty of mobile wrecks traveling on the...
You can download the 2006 KJ Service Manual here....Section 8 W has the Wiring Diagrams!

The newer KJs have a problem with the Cable Harness next to the Battery having damage inside the harness due to the Cable Harness being strained in that area!
You...
Welcome to the Forum.....best Forum ever for KJ Owners....I have a 2002 CRD which is the best vehicle I have ever owned but it is getting a bit tired now!
Only problem is that Jeep Worldwide no longer support the KJs as regards supplying Spares or repairing the vehicle!
It is difficult...
While you are doing this it is worth checking the Serpentine Belt....this drives the Alternator etc.
Check the Alternator Pulley at the same time.
Also change the Idler Pullies which the Serpentine belt runs on....some of the Pullies are held on by Left-hand thread bolts! If the Serpentine...
The 3.7 Gasser KJs have their main grounding coming off the rear of the heads and connecting to the Fire-wall.
Check these for corrosion.
You can make sure the Starter motor is grounding itself to the chassis by taking a thick cable such as a Jumper cable as used for jumping a flat battery...
You can try to advance the Pin assembly a few degrees by elongating he hole in the metal assembly held in place by a metal s.c.r.e.w and then rotate the assembly a bit then tighten the holding metal-rotation- holding device in a clockwise direction!
I had this problem on my 2002 CRD years ago!
Yes the Actuator pin assembly is more likely the culprit....my Jeep had the problem that the assembly was fitted a bit anticlockwise so I had to slightly elongate the screw-hole in the metal cylinder so that I could advance the assembly a few degrees and then tighten the screw holding it all in...
Possibly the Clock Spring flat cable under the steering wheel.....I have replaced mine twice on my 2002 Export CRD!
Or take the Ignition Switch apart and turn the innards with a screw-driver...the ignition key must be in its normal slot so the code can be read from the ignition key!
South Africa is generaly pretty warm even in the middle of winter. I once disconnected all of my glow plugs on a cold day and started up the 2002 2.5L Export diesel...started up fine with some shaking and noise and smoke!;)
There are some mountains in Natal that have ski slopes operating in...
I have never used of 5 v or 7 v glow plugs for the CRD!
My 2002 Export CRD...2.5 L fixed Turbo, still has the original 11 Volt plugs...1 Volt gets dropped though the relays etc. from the supplied 12 Volts!
I know that on my 2002 Export CRD Sport if the radio loses power then you have to type in a 4 digit number to get it to work again! My radio code is 2134 which is in the owner's manual!
Key fob is a bit more difficult...have you tried your spare key fob?
Battery Temp Sensor does not do too much but you can remove it and put an Ohm Meter on it.
Then heat it up a bit by placing the Sensor on a light bulb......you should see the resistance changing as it heats up!
Been there done that...newer KJs they stopped using the battery Sensor!
You need...
