Just a bit too late. I found out by bringing the bolts to Ace yesterday. [emoji16] Good info to have up here. I actually replaced both top and bottom with this size because Ace didn't have the smaller bolt to use for the top.
Also, I did both sides. The second side I literally had to snap the...
Finally got it. There was barely enough lip to bend the seal. I tried that for sure.
I had to use the slide hammer I rented in a not so ethical way. I took the internal 3 claw puller, and twisted the slide hammer on until the threaded portion of the hammer was pushing the 3 hooks out. The hooks...
Mine had metal and I'm replacing with the same.
Current status- bearing slipped by the seal. Seal is not wanting to budge...
I don't think I have a Dremel attachment that can cut this metal. Also a bit nervous about cutting it without buggering up the tube.
Also forgot to mention that I have a socket stuck to the lower end link bolt that won't come off for anything. I may just install the bolt back with the socket on it. [emoji23] Might be easier than finding the bolt or trying to remove the socket. It's a 9/16 socket because the 15mm started to...
Anyone have specs for the lower bolt? I know it's an 18mm...but anyone have thread specs? I guess i can bring a bolt up to Home Depot or Lowes, but I assume that they're not gonna have it.
Tried to do the CV, intermediate shaft, seal, and bearing. The seal and bearing are IMPOSSIBLE to remove. The bearing puller I rented was too big, unfortunately. It scored the tube a bit... Not sure what my next move will be.
Also nearly stripped my lower end link bolt. Looks like I gotta...
It was driveable. See my other post. Front drive shaft doesn't prevent the axle from still spinning.
If the axle decides to bind to a halt at highway speeds...well....
Worth $75 bucks.
Nah it was 75 bucks for piece of mind. It was driveable. I drove right up the ramp. That said who's to say the CV wouldn't just bind up on the highway and stop the wheel?? That's the last thing I wanted.
No no no to the SR-As. Not safe in the rain at all. I spun out a few times using them. Wayyyy to easy to lose grip around a corner.
If I were you, I'd get a less aggressive A/T tire instead of a highway tire.
Axle has only been in for 4 years or so, maybe 40k miles.
I wheel the thing. It was bound to break eventually. Timing is just never convenient. The tools to fix it are a 40 minute drive away.
Considered driving it to look at a Rav4 V6 to replace it with. Decided to just fix the passenger window regulator. This Jeep is starting to really annoy me in more ways than 1.
