Thanks for all the feedback guys. Lots of really helpful stuff here. You folks are a real helpful group that is for dang sure!
I refreshed the rear diff oil about two years ago. So, it shouldn't be low as I can't see any leaks. I noted that there was a small amount of silvery-ness to the oil...
Duderz7. The danger man hahah. Okay, thanks for the tips guys. I’ll give the Jeep a drive and see how warm the joints are. If they arent hot I’ll get my blocks out and give Duderz7 suggestion a try.
Oh, just a note- My KJ has 230,000km on it (130,000mi).
Hi folks,
My KJ has been making more and more noise from the rear axle over the last year. The noise is audible only when on power and does not change with cornering or steering. The service manual indicated that this is caused by a bad pinion bearing. What more can I do to diagnose this issue...
That is not true if you use the same length of shocks and lift using springs. OME 60069 is the same length as stock according to the OME/ARB fit chart. If you use a longer shock or spacers on the shocks or front clevis you absolutely need longer bump stops. If you have standard length shocks...
You don't need new bump stops if you aren't running over sized tires or wheels with more offset than stock. Not sure what tire size you have on there, but they don't look larger than 30" or so and they are on stock rims, so you can use factory bump stops no problem. Using extended bump stops...
I installed the rear shocks and springs. Then I took it to the mechanic for the rest of the install because I couldn't deal with compressing the front fronts. Swapping the parts on the rear end is very easy. That should save you a decent amount of money. The labour charge for installation of the...
I didn't notice any sort of significant reduction in fuel economy when I installed my lift. If I drove on the highway/at high speed more often then perhaps it would be more obvious.
A lift won't help reduce rubbing off road. Your suspension travel is still the same up and down, so the max and...
With a DTT in the front using 2wd will not be like full time 4x4. There is still zero drive to the front axle, so whether you have an LSD up there or not makes no difference to your forward drive traction. The DTT really should have no effect at all when in 2wd mode.
Please note that with a helical (DTT) style locker you won't get any lock up on if one tire on the axle with the DTT is in the air. I would imagine this will be limiting for rock crawling type off-roading, but not a problem on flatter ground.
From KMP Drivetrain:
"Please note that the wheel...
Love the factory airbox relocation! Haha! The proportions of the thing in the side shot are really cool actually. Super short overhangs front and rear and mega tire showing. What are you planning to do for fenders once you get a bumper rigged up?
The XJ was 700Lbs lighter than the KJ, so that probably is what did it. Couple that with the fact that Jeep didn't move to a 5 or 6 speed auto transmission, plus they didn't add any advanced engine technologies like variable valve timing or variable intakes, etc to the engines it is no surprise...
A US gallon is 3.8L and a UK gallon is 4.4L. That's a big difference when looking at MPG.
I'm getting about 12-14mpg in the city. Keeping your foot out of it can make a 10-20% difference in fuel economy. If you live somewhere with really heinous traffic like I do getting mileage like you see...
I've got a set of Nokian Rotiiva AT in 245/70R16 and they have not been impressive. The grip in the rain is really quite bad. My Fiance nearly spun the KJ on an offramp last year. They are acceptable for the infrequent snow we get here in Vancouver, but I wouldn't recommend them to anyone. The...
I'd guess you've got this fixed already, but if not this is what I did on my first KJ that was missing the bushing for the cable to transfer case lever. You can either fabricate or buy a bushing to fit the T-case lever to the cable end.
Digression- (Just get under the vehicle with some calipers...
How do the shims in your first post interact with the eccentric bolts of the LCA? I don't see how those would fit with the eccentric bolts, so they are maybe mounted to the knuckle in some way?
I knew these H&Rs felt stiff! Makes sense though. There are three ways to get more height 1. Stiffer springs of the same length. 2. Longer springs, same rate. 3. Move the upper mounting point down/away from the body. The last two might cause coil bind depending on the spring and mounting...
