This is my first Jeep, bought it brand new, and I've had this conversation with myself several times the past few years. Should I sell it and buy a JK? I definitely have way more $ into the KJ then I would get for it. I also don't do most major repairs myself so labor can get very expensive...
Ordered parts for left side CV and half shaft replacement. Need to get this done next week so I can go to the off-road park with more confidence I'm not going to break the CV axle (it moves too easily by hand now.)
My 05 Renegade did not come with the trac-loc (added it later.) I did not have "offroad package" on my build sheet but the skids, hooks, and rails were under "optional equipment." But my factory build sheet also said I had the larger 20.5 gallon gas tank too, which it definitely does not.
Thanks! I just had a UPS package stolen from my front door so maybe I'll have my parts held for pickup. Installing a camera to monitor my front and back doors now but that's another project....
Started saving $ for parts for front end. Passenger side CV can be moved by hand and clicks. This is the second set of CV axles (about 40K miles on em lifted.) Never had the intermediate shaft done so its getting replaced too. Probably upper and lower ball joints while I'm at it. I think my...
I get more waves now with the ARB bumper and winch. Usually followed by a slightly perplexed look by the Wrangler driver as they go by and start to realize its a Liberty.
Also had the same crack around 130K miles. Took a few weeks to troubleshoot as I had the same symptoms - ran hot with no visible leak. Kept on topping it off until crack was discovered. New radiator and all good now.
Priority one is replace the rear power window regulator to fix the falling window. Next, track down a sound which I think is a warped rotor, then start saving for front end parts like the new design JBA UCA ball joints, CV's and intermediate shaft.
For what I like to do (easy to moderate trails) its been great. I'm running 31" tires, 2.5" lift, DTT, mud tires, good skids etc and have no issues on most easy to moderate trails. Took it to a Jeep event last year and went on a muddy rutted trail that you were supposed to have 33" tires...
My first introduction to Jeeps was the blizzard of 1993 when my buddy and I pulled a few people off the side of I-95 in Virginia in his slightly modified (no lift but AT tires and a winch) Wrangler.
Loaded the KJ up with a shovel, emergency kit and my recovery gear. With a foot or two of snow on the way I'm ready to play. My new KJ front guard skid should make a nice plow of sorts I think.
Went for a 40 mile drive on the back roads. Started to crack the rear windows for air and the drivers side made a God awful noise on the way down. Rolled it up and will take a look this weekend. At 140K I'm probably overdue for a window regulator failure.
I had an excellent tech do this for me: throttle body cleaned, synthetic oil change, tranny fluid and filter swap, replaced leaking seal on oil filler, replaced rear pinion seal (again!)
Then I had to sell 8 of my 10 pints of blood to pay for it!
