Oh, forgot to mention this is the first time I had it in 4WD in 2 months. Before that in 4Lo for 6 hours without this noise. Front drive-shaft boots appear intact.
Bad transfer case or front driveshaft?
Took the Liberty on a 500 mile journey and it ran awesome on the highway (65-75mph) but the 20 minutes in 4WD up and down my camp road was a different story. It this the fabled "Angry Sparrows?" (whining noise from front of jeep at end of video clip)...
So I'm ready to pull the trigger on an ARB front bumper, then I'll be "done" ( well, then a winch, on-board air, rear locker...so almost done ha!) However a little voice in my head is telling me to save the $$ because I'm at 135K on the original motor and transmission which may need replacing...
Cleaned, prepped, and painted rear door inside bottoms with POR-15 to slow down the rust monster.
Did a quick look-see under the vehicle and noticed the front diff is leaking. Hard to see the extent with the skid plate on but nothing has been dripping on the driveway or garage floor. Got new...
Thanks for the detailed post and pictures. My original post said reservoir was empty. Well, in daylight outside I could see better and the level was actually a quarter of the way to the cold fill line. I topped off to proper level. Checked oil and no milkshake, it looked fine. I finally had the...
When my water pump let loose on the exit ramp after a 4 hour highway drive across the state (very lucky it happened at low speed) I was able to immediately pull over. When the local shop replaced the pump/thermostat/and belt I also had them replace the tensioner, based on what people (OK, mostly...
Coolant reservoir was almost empty. My bad for not checking it often enough. I'll fill it today after work and do some driving this weekend to see if the level holds.
Will do tonight. Its been sitting the last three days. I did first notice the temp climb after wheeling. Mud and water crossings were involved and I washed it pretty well after I thought but will do a closer inspection.
Sure, I'll photograph the rust repair (well, really just rust inhibitor I guess) when I finish rear doors. I'm not a body repair expert so don't judge! lol. Here is a pic of the shredded bump stops that were replaced.
So I've finally been enjoying my Liberty this summer after a long spell of repairs. The past few weeks I'm noticing my dash temp gauge climbing a bit, mostly on hill ascent. First time was after 6 hours wheeling so I figured it was pretty warm already (electric fan was running most of the day)...
A few things
Prepped and painted both lower front doors with POR-15 to stop the rust monster. Rear doors are on the list for tomorrow. Also replaced original rear bump stops with replacements from crown auto. The stock ones shredded the first time on the trail with my new lift, probably...
I have rust on the bottom of my doors, inside only so far. I'm going to use a POR15 kit i bought when I have the time to apply it properly. I'll let you know how it works out.
