The Dreaded P0301 / Code 1153
First, (welcome) Second, these engines hate overheating. The aluminum heads and cast iron block tend to pull away from each other at high temps - so a head gasket issue would be a likely diagnosis. CV front driveshaft blew on the trail!
That's what I have to do. Funny how KJ's can be different even though they're the 'same.' Thankfully the bolt for the bracket is easy to get to; removing that bracket enabled me to keep cuss words stored up for more frustrating projects around the house :gr_grin: Bob- TwoBobsKJ

CV front driveshaft blew on the trail!
If you have a 1/4" drive ratchet with an extension it makes it a lot easer. I struggle to get a 3/8" drive up in there :emotions34: Bob- TwoBobsKJ

CV front driveshaft blew on the trail!
Was the T-case end removed? Lots easier if the rear CV is separated from the T-case - that gives you some leverage to pop off the front CV. Bob- TwoBobsKJ

CV front driveshaft blew on the trail!
Take a really close look at the CV on the transfer case end of the front drive shaft. That CV is almost directly under the front of the driver's seat so you tend to feel instead of hear the clicking. No need to drop the diff - but if you're feeling frisky it WILL make the job a lot easier... Loosen the motor mount bolts (no need to completely remove them) and lift the engine. Looks great! Those coilovers and rear shocks are awesome, aren't they? My lift is too tall to have the Total Control shocks in the rear (unless I make a mod Tom's been after me to make for a while now... ) but the fronts are fantastic. You'll like that winch - I have the same model and very pleased with it. One suggestion though: Spring the extra $150 for the synthetic line for a couple of reasons. Transmission Flush 04 KJ
There are a couple of things going on here... First, I suggest you take your KJ to a good transmission shop and have them do a tranny flush and refill. Scraping/grinding sound from rear end
On the passenger side the e-brake pads came off in the "top hat" and were rattling around in there. I rarely use the e-brake and I guess the rivets that hold the pads to the backing plate rusted away - made for an awful racket driving down the highway.
