I got the replacement installed - had to break the plastic brackets to I could remove the radiator. For future insurance I was sure to put anti-seize on the bolts this time :favorites68:

The 3.7 swap is a pretty straightforward project - details in that thread.
Good friend of mine loves to buy and sell cars, usually ones that were wrecked, totaled out by the insurance company, repaired and then sold with salvage titles. His son is getting into the game now and has a couple of...
It's the way the rad is mounted.
There are square nuts that slide into a plastic bracket on the rad, and on mine the nut rusted/seized to the bolt. When I tried to remove the bolt the nut broke the plastic and just spun in the plastic bracket. Then I had to break the plastic bracket, blah...
One addition to Tom's list. Be SURE to use HOAT-type coolant when you change the radiator. Many shops will tell you their "universal" coolant will work fine. DO NOT LET THEM TALK YOU INTO UNIVERSAL COOLANT!
The owner's manual specifically calls for HOAT coolant - any other type will corrode the...
I've said it on here before so I apologize ahead of time. My Dad used to tell me "we're too poor to be so cheap..."
What he meant was, we can go the cheap route at first but we'll be doing the project again and spending twice as much (or more) to do it right. So might as well save up the $'s...
Looks like a great time - perfect type of outing for a Jeep :waytogo:
Gotta say, though. Wouldn't take me long to get nervous about crocs after seeing one sunning himself on a rock at a stream crossing :emotions33:

I drove both and there's a big difference between the two as far as just raw torque and power. The kicker for me is there is virtually no difference between the two V8's when it comes to fuel mileage. And in the used car market the Hemi doesn't cost any more than the 4.7 so I just went with the...
Me too!!! :emotions34:
I purposely put the blimp right on the hood when I framed the shot and thought there'd be Ooohs and Ahhhs with the black Jeep as contrast. Guess Jeeps are mesmerizing... :happy175:
If I had to do it over again I'd buy an '09 or '10 Commander since they came with the...
Yep, an '06. Only reason I'm not real happy with the way the front looks is the stock size tires look like little donuts. My KJ has messed me up - now I feel like I need to get larger tires
I bought Mevotech LCA's from RockAuto. Fit perfectly and has a greaseable ball joint...
Stock UCA's don't have serviceable or replaceable ball joints. Only JBA's a-arms have the serviceable ball joints. (Well, there is another company out there that copied JBA's arms but I don't consider them in serious conversations about suspension components...)
Bob
The thick washer is basically a spacer that keeps the boot pressed up against the bottom of the ball joint body and ensures the boot retains the grease. The washer doesn't move the the ball joint up or down in the spindle since the taper of the joint's post positions it vertically in the...
Spent the day with my Commander and replaced the suspension with OME HD coil springs and Bilstein 4600 shocks. To quote my wife, "It rides more truck-like but not harsh - it doesn't ride like a '78 Continental anymore..." :happy175:
The XK suspension is very similar in front to a KJ while the...
Double check that it actually has the tow package. Due to a silly and unnecessary recall Chrysler was forced to put trailer hitches on all KJs; the Jeep you're looking at (which appears to be in great shape) may just have the hitch without the trailer harness and heavy duty cooling.
The HD...

That's just what I did with mine a few years ago. Got a rad for an '02 and set it up so the external cooler runs in series with it. The plumbing looks like this - the yellow arrows point to the original lines that ran to the external cooler:
