Folks,

I am new to the liberty forums. I am a longtime jeeper and I have never had a problem like this with a jeep.

I got a CEL on my girlfriends 02 Liberty 3.7 with the automatic ****** and the NP231(or I assume its a NP231) it has 70k on the odometer. So I checked the codes.

303 Misfire detected in cylinder #3.

I reset the computer and it has not come back but now the jeep runs like crap and shifts very hard. It has also stumbled but has not thrown a code again. It feels as if the ****** is simply shifting hard and the motor seems to be stumbling.

I was wondering if I could find out if this jeep was still under warranty I knew that some 02's had a the 100k warranty on them.

Anyone else having these types of problems, I did search for about 2 hours before I posted

I thank you in advance for your help with this matter.

Could be many things. Since its only in one cylinder, i would check the spark plugs. A bad plug can cause this very thing. Check those and go from there.

I agree with the above. The fact that its only in Cylinder #3, leads me to believe that perhaps the coil pack for that cylinder has gone on the fritz. And since everything is so fine tuned in the vehicles computer, all it takes is one little thing like that to knock everything out of whack.

I'd start by doing a good ole tune up on it. Replace the spark plugs with a good brand (do a search on here for which ones people have used, too early in the morning for me to remember...LOL). Since the 3.7L has coil over ignition, there are no plug wires to replace. I'm not sure how much the cost of a coil pack is, but you might look into replacing them too, if it is infact the coil pack on number 3.

Ohh and BTW, welcome to JKJ! (welcome)

As previously said... It's probably just time for a tune-up.

If it has never been done, I'm surprised the plugs lasted that long. :-k

i had the same code on my 2002 with only 31K on it. i changed the spark plugs, and that seemed to help for a little bit, then the whole BCM went out.

good luck! 8-[
