familykj -- It's not that we care, per se (at least I don't anyway). It just seems silly to replace a wear-and-tear part on a vehicle manufactured 7, almost 8 years ago. It would kind of be like if the dealership did a recall on tires (yes, yes I know the specifics but just go along with the same principal). It'd just be kind of inane since it's a part you'll more than likely almost certainly need to place anyway. I know, it's a poor comparison example but the basic principal is the same.

Personally, I think they should have a mileage limitation on them - like if your vehicle has over 80K miles, then they shouldn't have to replace them under the recall. My wife's '03 KJ only has ~36K miles on it now, so if there is any wear or rusting on the ball joints, I have no problem with them picking up the tab. Even though her truck is almost 8 years old, it still has low mileage and those parts shouldn't wear out with that amount of miles.

Because it's another example of a business being bullied by our government. There is nothing wrong with KJ UBJs. ThunderbirdJunkie didn't have to replace one until 135k miles, and his junk is lifted and gets wheeled and abused.

you guys don't get it - It's not Chrysler replacing it because "they feel" it's bad, the NHTSA did one of their ******** investigations and "found" that there are a bunch of idiots that don't maintain their vehicles or cry because they had to fork out $400+ for an upper control arm, so THEY forced Chrysler to issue a recall.

The price of previous recalls and future potential recalls are rolled into the price of every new vehicle.
A KJ like ThunderbirdJunkie's stickered for 22 grand new. If you buy a new '09 KK sport with the same options, the SOB is almost 30 grand.
Sure you can blame part of that on inflation, but why was a Mustang GT in 2002 30 grand, and a Mustang GT in 2010 is also 30 grand if that's the case?

I was just trying to figure out why you were so against a recall. TBJ, is yours under the recall? If not, than that is why you went 135k, if so, they were probably shot before you knew it.

I do agree with the fact that they put the cost into the new vehicles, which is why I don't buy new. B/C of your polical views, this becomes a different story and I am leaving that alone....

To add conclusion to this story, I just got mine back from being replaced, I am happy. Saved me that $400 that I don't have...I am good with that.

What if your vehicle is involved in the recall and you don't have the upper ball joints replaced under the recall. Then, you get into an accident because your upper ball joint fails.

Can you be held liable for your negligence? You knowing ignored the recall.

Recall is to late for me, I replaced mine with JBA's. Oh well. Wonder if they will pay me the money I spent for the JBA's since I replaced them myself?

WOW, I might be able to get my money back for the JBA's. There's a paragraph in the letter that say's:

"If you have already experienced this condition and have paid to have it repaired, please send your original receipts and/or other adequate proof of payment to........ for reimbursement."

Worth a try!

May of 2002 from inside my driver door, I can't find the exact date though. Mine went well yesterday, they look to be at a much better angle so to reduce the wear and tear..here are some pics.

I believe the dates were you had to have been manufactured between May of 2002 and September of 2002. Mine was manufactured in December of 2002 and it neither popped up when I did my VIN on the website nor did I get a call/letter from Jeep.
