i just picked up a 2002 liberty sport that would stall after 30 seconds, that was the ad.
when i got there it was a mess, guy didnt know anything but thought he was a mechanic.
one fuel injector was misfiring and he just drove it til it died 2 months ago
he swapped the computer but it wont start because the key is wrong
he chopped out the cat because he thought that was a problem?
its got 300,000 kms on it
when i was going there i was hoping i wouldnt walk into this situation
was going to just walk away from it but the body is really good and its got that Renegade light bar, power everything, sunroof, no cracked windshield.
i lowballed him
ill put the old computer back in it and see if i can get it running
but, its for my son
i could just go get another 3.7, ive always wanted to put a tdi in a jeep and checking here to see if anyone has done one yet
didnt see anything on youtube
heres where i can get a swap kit

If its auto I bet the hardest part will be getting the box and engine ecu to work together, manual will be much easier. A 1.9 diesel will probably be a bit puny too, the BMW 6 cylinder diesel would be more fun, assuming it's not too long to fit! Chips up nicely too.

I'm not sure which of those adapter kits works with the 3.7L trans. These are a dodge pattern engine like the 318/360 unlike the 4.0L jeep.

yes, i emailed the adapter company because you can see there are no kits for the jeep 3.7L and they said no, they dont make adapters for the 3.7L auto. kind of *****, i found a cheap 2002 jetta salvage car for $500. my boat had a 5.0/305 that just blew a cylinder. i was going to put a 3.0L in it but i might just get that tdi adapter plate for a chevy V8 so it bolts to my leg and put a tdi in my boat instead and put another 3.7 in the jeep

Most legs have different ratios for V8, V6, and 4cyl. Not usually enough range in prop pitch to compensate. Check it out before you commit.

I have a broken 305 in my fishing boat too. Going 327 or bigger. I don't have the patience for a slow boat!

it was always under powered, its a 29.5 ft bayliner encounter with 1 motor and most have 2-350's in them. i hit hull speed at 1800 rpm with a high thrust prop on it. i just basically use it like a trawler to putt out to some sturgeon holes and drop anchor and a eulachon;)

got a blue driver scan tool, hooked it up to the jeep and got nothing. its brand new never used it, it wouldnt give any info. hooked it up to my 2010 caravan and it works perfectly. went searching and the 3 block computer is an ecm? and the key light is security. and the wcm is the skim and as far as i can tell i need to send the ecm off for a skim delete.
is that right? and then i can toss the wcm in the trash?

just talked to a guy that can program the ecm to the skim, up here in Vancouver Canada he charges $300 to do that but because the the scan tool wont talk to the ecm, he says that used ecm is nfg
i need to go and see if if the other guy unplugged some wires somewhere.
i asked if he could just delete the skim from the ecm and he doesnt know anything about doing that
now im wondering if i should just go to a scrap yard and get a used ecm and skim from one jeep liberty
or do any of you know who sells good ecm's that have been skim deleted?

It is possible to get the skim removed from the ecu, there's a company near me who do it, as I understand they reset the ecu back to 'new' so on initial start it looks at what's attached to it and sets itself up from there, if the skim module isn't plugged in it ignores it, just don't ever forget and plug it in!
The company probably won't be any good to you as they are in Norfolk UK.
There must be an ecu specialist you could send yours to who do a similar service, have a Google.

im going to try and find the pin wiring diagram for the 3 plugs that go into the ecm and make sure i have power going to it. if theres no power the obd2 wont read it
found this article explaining how to reset the jeep ecm, hopefully if i reset with the skim unplugged the security/key light on the dash goes out

I'm afraid it's a bit more involved than that, once the ecu and skim have been plugged in they code to each other, to remove the code its got to be plugged into a computer and wiped.
The resetting will just restart the ecu with the volatile memory wiped so the gearbox will have to relearn the shift points etc. This is sometimes handy because the ecu can become corrupt and a hard reset can fix it but for security reasons the immobiliser is stored on non volatile memory.

i went to a wreckers and got another ecm and skim but he couldnt find the key but will keep looking. i tried to take the harness but its sitting on the ground with no tires and cant get to the transmission.
$100 with some other odds and ends
think i found a guy that can reset the ecm BUT when i connected the new skim and ecm the obd2 still wont connect to the ecm and ive got no power in the fuse block on the 15amp asd fuse,
need to go find a pin diagram to find the 12v feeds and grounds to the ecm

If you look on here you'll find a link to the full OEM manuals with all the wiring diagrams.

yes , im looking for the diagrams. pin 22 on black connector should have power going to it

was out looking at a 2008 today, that stalls at idle, that sat all winter and was damp inside. all sorts of codes but nothing to do with engine/transmission. runs like a valve or two are closed from a popped off rocker
