I have an 04 Liberty sport and just last weekend with the bad weather in the south I was using 4WD to get around in the snow. I came home shifted back from 4WD into 2WD in the driveway and noticed that my dash light indicating when you are in 4WD stayed on. So what is happening is the dash light is coming on when it's in 2WD (should be off) and goes off when I shift to 4WD (should be on) So the light is working opposite what it should. The good news is mechanically everything is working as it should in both 2WD and 4WD.

Has anyone every had this problem?

I'm figuring that there is a mechanical "switch" that changes the dash light. Anyone one know where it is? I'm hoping I don't have to remove the center console to access it. Or maybe it's on the transfer case?

Any help would be much appreciated!!

Ignore it, if you are sure its in 2 wheel drive its not a problem. It happens sometimes. Mine was on for three days then all of a sudden it was off. Happens to them every now and again if you use the search function

Yep, very common issue with lots of threads on it. It's just a sensor. If you're sure you're not in 4WD and the light doesn't bother you, it's not a huge issue.

Last time I went wheeling I noticed that the engine idles higher when in 4-low. I think it does more than just turn the dash light on. For 4-high tho I'm not sure it does anything else but light up the dash light.

Yes that sensor does more then just turn on/off a light, alot more if you have a '02 KJ or '06+ KJ.
