Looking for 4.10 ring and pinion.

I picked up a full rear with the 4.10 gears from the salvage yard. Unfortunately the preload adjuster lock on the passenger side was broken causing the preload adjuster to walk out. Pinion gear has quite a few chips and is most likely trash, ring gear looks okay.

Also will the 4.10 ring a pinion from the XJ with the 8.25 fit? I know I will need to make sure the axles are 29 spline like the KJ.

Ring and pinion gears are matched sets. If you have access to good pinion out of the proper axle grab the Ring gear too.

That's the plan. Going to search the local yards. Sadly the axle I picked up was 2 hours from the house...

After checking for 29 splines on the differential end, check the other end for the 5x4.5 lug pattern as some xj-s & other 8.25 axles are set up for the 5x5 lug pattern.

I'm not aware of any XJ's that have a 5x5 lug spacing.

If you decide to buy new gears, I went with Nitro gears and I dont believe I would recommend them. I made 100% sure that my pattern was spot on and I still get gear noise around 70mph. Ive always read Yukon is a crap shoot since they just rebox whatever they can get.

This I did not know, is it the dodge trucks that have the different bolt pattern? I have a set of axles just sitting in the garage out of a 2004 if someone needs them. Probably not worth shipping. I'm in western idaho.

I was wrong. It is the XKs that have the 5x5 pattern.
Ram trucks usually, but not always, have a 5x5.5 pattern.

Regardless, check both ends so there is no disappointment after a rebuild.

Dakotas of that era will often if not always have the 8.25, not sure on bolt pattern or spline count.

Question: upon dissasembly of the used rear axle the carrier preload adjusters are stripped as are the bearing caps where the adjusters go. My understanding is that this axle is no longer usable because I will be unable to torque the carrier adjusters. Does this sound right?
