A/C compressor getting Hot

My A/C no longer blows cold and the A/C compressor itself gets so hot that you cannot touch it. Does this mean it’s bad or could it be low on oil. Do I need to replace the compressor and all it’s components? Thanks

Well I purchased a complete kit to replace everything under the hood. When I pulled off the old compressor and accumulator there was no oil or Freon in the system. I installed all the new stuff and put 4oz oil in the compressor, 2oz in the accumulator and 2oz in the condenser. I just need to pull a vacuum and add the Freon. The tag states 1.25lbs of Freon but that converts to 20oz. I heard it should be closer to 26oz. Do you know what the magic number is supposed to be?
