ABS/ESP time

So it's this time of the year! time to change the wheel hub and ABS sensor after I got the ESP / ABS light on. Hopefully a friend of mine work for peterbuilt and ca have me the part for cheap ( if not for him the part would cost over 300$ here ) I also figured it was a pretty easu fix, the hardest part being of removing the brake I guess XD but I have 2 question.

Is there really a part of the sensor inside the Hub so replacing the sensor alone might not fix the issue.
and
Do I need to take it to a shop to reprogram the sensor after I have done the swap?

Sorry; my '05 doesn't have ABS so I don't know.

You lucky jeeper the system piss me off a lot and I would like to be able to take it off but keep the traction control so I know my wife is safe when she use the jeep in icing condition...But seems they come together

No need to remove any brake lines,just remove the caliper and hang to the side.


There is a tone ring inside the hub bearing,common to get corrosion inside causing the air gap to change.It will leak past the rubber seal for the ABS sensor,GM had a huge issue with this.Best to buy a whole new hub bearing since I have found that many aftermarket sensors are different then OE and the air gaps might not be the same when installed in a OE bearing.


No need to re-program anything,just drive and if the issue is resolved the lights will go off by themselves in 10-50 feet of driving.

But... the sensors are about 20 bucks and take about 15 minutes to change out. Worth trying especially if there is visible damage to one of the wires.

That is what my mechanic told me and what he think. Since I can get the hub for cheap I'm gonna change it all by myself, now just have to find somewhere to work XD

you can get the timken replacements from rock auto for ~150 bucks with the sensor. Easy swap considering the replacement sensors that may or maynot come out are already mounted inside that unit.

E14 Torx and 35/36 mm axle socket needed.

A friend of mine work for Peterbuilt and can get me the part for 125 CAD but not sure I'm gonna fix it since after 3 day of issue it is now gone since the dec 24. And I don't really mind not having ESP/ABS, it's more to get the light out that I wanted to fix it XD Now let's see if the cold temp will bring the problem back since it was over 0C for the past week -35C here I come, but still not close to the -50 you guys should get in northern prairie.

the speed sensor also kills your cruise control if defective. I'd order one to have the shelf.

125 is a pretty good price on the Timkens. The napa replacement is ~400 plus in town.

I pinched a wire when i put the shock back in after pulling the CV axle chasing a rumble I have now attributed to the duratracs doing what they do, light went away after replacing the hub by the time i back out of the garage and put it in D.

-50 would be embelishing unless your one of those that uses temperature and windchill interchangable. Were consistantly in the -30 to -40 range right now though we are going to see -11 today.

:waytogo:When I replaced my front right side wheel bearing and speed sensor. I had to hook up my SnapOn Ethos scaner to clear the codes to turn off the ABS/ESP light on the dash. So, you also may need a scaning tool to turn off the ABS/ESP light.

Not like I use cruise a lot...only in summer, so the hub will be replaced but it will wait the end of the winter so I have my garage and I can do it myself. Anyway, since I first posted on the forum the issue went away...over a week without it.
