Hi guys,

Need your expertise. I have a 2005 Jeep Liberty 3.7L that will not crank or start. I ruled out the battery, the Starter Relay and the 15A Starter Relay fuse.

When I bypass the Starter Relay with a wire, the Starter does try to start the car, but the car will not turn over. Could the problem be the Starter if the Starter is trying to start when I bypass with a wire?

Thanks

Actually, I think I may have found the issue. I found that the Ignition Actuator Pin is broken.

So was this in fact your issue? There alot of posts on this issue here and I’m having a similar issue but mine will only no crank when the engine is warmed up to temp. Starts fine cold everytime or even after waiting 10-20mins?

This one almost sounds like the old heat soak issue. On old vehicles if the starter gets too hot it won't crank. I think it has more to do with the solenoid and a voltage drop when hot.

Agreed, as I have nothing else to go off of. I just swapped the Solonoid with a replacement and added extra heat sheild to it however, haven’t had the opportunity to test it yet. Took it for a short test ride after this job and it threw a misfire code again, so it’s parked for a couple more weeks before I can scrape up enough free time to get after it.

It was not the ignition switch. I took it apart twice inspected and tested it, everything looks and functions fine. I did replace the starter and solonoid and ran a 2G ground wire from starter to frame, the issue became far less frequent and predictable but still there, I traced all ignition starting component wiring for voltage and continuity and can’t find anything wrong. I really do believe this is a malfunctioning PCM issue, I pulled the PCM and opened it up can’t see any broken connections or burnt diodes put it back together and picked all the pins and greased the plugs, I did this over on the TCM side as well and about 50 miles of stop and go and 50+ start ups it hasn’t happened so who knows? I hope I got it but as there was no A Ha moment I’m not confident, lol.
