anti-rattle brake clips question

Hi all,

I couldn't find any vids or google hits discussing anti-rattle clips that goes on brake calipers. I haven't done brakes before so I'm not sure what is correct.

I've bought Napa calipers and adaptive ones pads both of which came with clips.

1. Adaptive one pads had half the clips (4 of 8) bent in a more extreme angle (bottom clip in picture). I slipped the pads in and there was more resistance to slide the pads where the clip had a more extreme angle. I tried this without any lube.

a) are these clips with a more extreme angle correct? If not I take it I should bend them such that the pads slide easily?
b) how easy should the brake pads slide?

2. The Napa calipers also included clips as well. They allowed the pads to slide easily. However there were a few that did not stay on flush to the caliper, see picture below.
Are the clips designed in that way or should they be adjusted so it is flushed to the caliper?

Thanks mucho.

Those look like they got bent up.
They should sit flush making a level surface for the ends of the brake pad to sit in.
It's hard to see, but iirc the clips have "tabs" that actually fit into little indentations on the side of the cage.

Flush fit and then grease them. Pads need to slide smoothly.

okay. Cool. I wasn't sure whether they were design to move the pads away from the rotor.

I know it's a newbie question but I really couldn't find anything on what to do with the clips in this situation. My google-fu wasn't good enough i guess.

Thanks.

One of the things to remember when doing something you are not familiar with is when it taking apart, remove everything slowly and see how all the small parts fit. Those only go in one way , you'll know if you have them wrong since they do sit down right into the bracket

Good info here. I got these with my brakes as well (got the same pads). I actually didn't use the new clips on one side. But then when I thought about it I decided I should and then used them on the other side. No problems with either side so far :p

i wasn't sure whether they were designed that way.
I thought they could be designed to move the pads away from the rotor after the pedal is depressed.
Just checking.

i had replaced my clips and they were too tight at first so i bent them a little to allow the pads to slide better and stay secure on the mount. old ones were so worn they would fall out with the pads when changing.

i have a rattle on the front pad when braking at low speeds and/or pumping brakes at low speed. i have read somewhere that this normal when braking at low speeds but this is the first time i have experienced since changing them. anyone else every had a rumbling front brake?
