How did you run the line level converter? Is there something funky on our system where it’s an abnormally high feed and there’s some type of resistor on the speaker?
I ask because I have a Lanzar Vibe211 amp that I installed this past weekend. I know the amp and sub are fine because I hooked them up in my brother’s S-10 and he has an aftermarket headunit. They sounded great. Right now, something is definitely not right.
I hooked up the LOC right at the headunit (spliced into stock harness) and ran a RCA cable to the back. At very low volumes (1-5) you can hear that the sub is playing, and it’s clear. It’s very little bass though, as it’s so low of volume. Anything higher, and the sub seems to be cutting in and out very rapidly and there is no bass and what is heard isn’t clear at all. I’ve adjusted the gain and frequency filter with no effect. I’ve also made sure it’s set on low pass filter and I’ve tried with bass boost on and off. I am not saying it hits and it’s not clear – there really is no bass. The stock speakers on “0” bass setting are putting out more bass than the rapidly intermittent sub.
I am going to borrow my brother’s Kenwood amp and plug it in to see if it’s the amp or the wiring. I really have a feeling it’s something with the amp interfacing with the LOC. Maybe the resistance or voltage the Jeep’s HU puts out doesn’t match the Vibe’s acceptable range? If I remember correctly, the Vibe is 22kOhm input impedance, and 100mV – 4,000mV input voltage. I thought most amps were 10kOhm impedance?
Any ideas or experience? I know an obvious solution would be to swap the stock headunit out for an aftermarket one, but I really don’t want to do that. I’ll go get a new Sony 340x1 Xplod amp with speaker-level inputs for $150 before I’d consider swapping head units. I am really hoping it doesn’t resort to that as I have already purchased the Lanzar which I know works, and it fits just perfectly under the driver rear seat.
