I bought some Moog K3199 lower ball joints thinking I could get the dealer to put them on under the recall. It turns out however that they will not put them on for me under the recall - the recall requires them to use their own ball joints. They want to charge me $300 instead to do it. So my questions are:

* are the MOOGs worth the hassle or should I just go with the factory ball joints?

* if i did the ball joints myself would it be possible to do it without taking the lower control arm off? The reason I ask is I have a Frankenlift and its a bitch to get the lower clevis back onto the control arm.

Yes they are worth it,I have 32,000 miles on mine and zero play(grease them every oil change),the first set of OEM LBJ's only lasted 17,000 miles and the 2nd set only about 10,000 miles until I put in the MOOG's.

Changing them is not to hard, you can rent the tools at a place like AdvanceAutoParts. No need to take the LCA off, only the knuckle itself needs to be removed.

You dont have to take the lower arm off.

Its a toss up. No one has really had any touble with the moogs if you keep them greased, but if you do use moogs then the recall will never cover your Jeep again. If you get the recall, the lower balljoints are covered for life, and its free.

I realized I can get them to install the lower BJs now for free when they do the wheel alignment tommorow and I can install the MOOGS later when I have more time.

Good idea. Let them put them in free and then when the weather warms up in the spring you can put the Moog's in when you get around to it.
