Bouncy rear after lift install.

Installed Bilstein 24-185240 4600 series shocks with OME 948's. These were the shocks for a 2000 Dodge dakota ext. cab 4x4. Extended these shocks were 2 inches longer than the old Rusty's shocks. The Rusty's were were 2 inches longer than the stock ones.
Problem is after installing them the rear of the Liberty bounces like there are no shocks on it at all.
If I push up and down on the rear bumper then stop it will bounce 2 or 3 more times then stop.
Is that normal with the Bilsteins?

Mines been bouncing around worse than when it was stock with OME/Bilstein lift. I’ve just ignored it by this point. Honestly should’ve went with a cheap lift kit since I barely ever drive it anyway and the ride is worse than before after getting basically the “best” one. Wait until you hit deep pot holes and it sounds like the whole front end just broke lol. Then again, I have 31s and steel wheels so a little heavier than stock but still suspension related.

Not normal at all, never had a set do that it should not bounce like that at all, something wrong. Do you have them mounted the right way?

Mine was lifted when I bought it, but has I believe OME springs. Not sure what ones. But it does have Bilstein shocks all around. Again, not sure what ones. I have no bouncyness at all. I've owned it for just over 3 years now.

Why would you remove new shocks to buy others
Find out the issue with them first
Was just thinking back through, We have installed over 35 sets of rear Bilsteins here with no issues at all on KJs with OME rear springs
No bounce at all

Any drawbacks to running stock length rear shocks with the 948's and one extra upper isolator? The rear is at 21.5"

No issues if you don't drive it, otherwise will top out and blow the shocks , stock shocks are pretty much topped out at extending them 2.75-3 inches. As long as level road, no curbs, steeper driveways turning into then maybe able to get by for a couple of days.

This would be temporary.

I've been going through the Lift faq: Read before asking questions! and Actual Lift Amount - Lets Compare Fender Heights Section and found about 5 or 6 different part numbers for Bilstein rear shocks that have been used with 2.5'' lifts.

Found a couple that used stock length Bilsteins (Bilstein 24-139175) with 948's and no problems.
I must have went with the wrong ones (Bilstein 24-185240).

Just tried some Monroe shocks for a 2002 Dodge Durango 4x4. These shocks were 24 1/4'' long, which is 2'' longer than stock. Same exact thing bouncy in the rear, same as the Bilsteins. I put the stock length shocks back on and back to normal. I'm at a loss.

You have something wrong for sure , no way can two sets of shocks bad.
Since no pictures yet we have yet to see how exactly everything was mounted.
Never seen this, in over 40 years of doing suspension work I've ran into 3 bad shocks. in not even sure how many of hundreds of vehicles from stock, lowered, lifted etc.

Which Monroes did you try? Only ones I would ever try and have ran personally are the coilovers for a 99-04 Dakota 4x4 club cab rest of Monroes are pretty much junk. But then seems you have an issue with any shock

They were just standard Monroe shocks.
I also double checked everything on the rear, sway bar, contorl arms, and even the tags on the springs to make sure they are the 948's.
The stock rear shocks have less than 2'' of travel before they are fully extended.
I may have to try the OME 132L's. I'm kind of afraid to buy them and find out they do the same thing.

To cause a severe jounce problem like he's describing.. man.. I don't know, you'd almost think he was on a set of really soft, springy coil springs.. the way it's described, I've only ever seen that when the rear shocks were totally blown out (or not installed) and the rear was just sitting on the coils alone.

None of this makes sense.

Would print socks upside-down matter? I put mine Boots down (now Boots off) so it says Bilstein right side up
