Went to get my 2006 KJ smog checked and it passed diagnostic, but not physical inspection. They have to be able to verify its not a rebuilt or something like that.

2 years ago it failed smog check and I had a new one installed (passenger side) about 2 years ago. I didn't bother to ask the technician where the serial numbers are located on the CC, and when I returned to the shop it was closed. Crawling under the KJ I could make out a couple numbers on the back side, but I'm not sure where I should be looking.

Any advice?

Update:

I ended up going to the shop that installed the CC and the owner put it up on a rack and showed me the location of the serial #. He had to take a brush to clear off the gunk, but it was there. I took it again to the smog check place and he still could not read it. Ended up going to a mediation place and the mechanic stamped PASS. What a pain in the ass the whole process was.

Is the shop closed as in out of business, or not normal business hours? The numbers are normally stamped on or near the neck weld, and are stamped with a "dot" stamp. A series of dots in rows/circular make the body of the letter/number.

If I can think of it Monday at work I'll take a photo of a new converter for you to compare to.
