Hi All!

Did some searching but couldn't find the exact information that I was looking for. I'm going to need catalytic converters soon. Not sure exactly how soon, but codes have been pending for a little while. What exactly are my options here? I read a single different review on Walkers.

Keep in mind: the Jeep has 173k miles and I don't plan to keep it THAT much longer. I'd rather not put $900 OEM cats in there.

Are there any decent aftermarket cats with relatively OK flow and reliability?

Ditto...I am at about 137K miles and I've been getting the P0420 code for about a week - "catalyst system below efficiency bank 1" - hoping I don't have to replace the cats. any easy way to find out if it's maybe just the O2 sensor?

Can not get P0420/P0430 codes without properly functioning O2 sensors.

I had to replace my cats after they failed and I bought a Pacesetter Y-pipe with non-Carb compliant cats. I got them from Rockauto for a good price.

The instillation was easy- getting the stock ones off was a bear as the clips holding the cats to the headers had rusted. I ended up coating them with Naval jelly and hitting it with PB Blaster to get rid of the rust and loosen the nuts and bolts. The clip that secured the nut in place rusted in half so I held a socket on the nut and used a torque drill on the bolt to get it off. Still managed to get a deep cut on my finger from the spinning clip with gloves on so be careful.

Everything lined up nicely and no problems or leaks. I also went ahead and replaced the muffler and tail pipe with a new set from Walker. Not loud but you can hear it when you romp down on the pedal.

Thanks for the info. What are "non-carb" compliant cats? Also I was under the impression (because I haven't gotten under the Jeep to look as of recent) that the Cats and the Y-pipe are all in one. Am I incorrect? I can't find a diagram for the '03+ system.

Rockauto only sold the non-Carb cats. Northern VA has emissions testing but where I live does not so I did not have to buy the Carb compliant ones.

The Y-pipe was separated but it goes together with a slip joint and held with a C clamp. I did go ahead and replace both downstream O2 sensors. I had already replaced both upstream sensors so now I have all new sensors. I got them from Advance Auto with a 25% discount.
