Clutch/flywheel options

99% of Jeep owners would disagree,they want Bentley quality but pay Yugo prices.
The type of person who buys a stick shift, is generally more of a hands-on type of driver. And yes, can even be considered more performance minded, not minding a slight trade off. The only clutch I've had chatter on me was one that got cooked.
And we should be saying the flywheel surface is either dished or bowed, since all flywheels are curved. ;)

I know you stated generally in the highlighted statement above, but I would never ever say that. Right now I know of 3 friends who have manual transmissions in various vehicles including one TJ and all bought them due to others telling them it was more manly, or something to that effect. The TJ with less than 80,000 on it needs a new clutch etc since he can't drive a manual, ( nor can either one of the others) heck they even use the clutch to shift between gears out on the road. So no they are not hands on, nor more performance minded

What was that line Clint Eastwood would say....."a Man's got to know his limitations". Guys who have no business getting a manual trans don't enter into my equation. They get stuck into the gray area of "generally". ;)

Oh the good old "manual vs auto" battle.15+ years ago now doubt manual but nowdays auto's have all the advantages that a manual can't touch.Offroad these newer auto's(some not all) can't be touched by a manual for performance,durability,strength,and saving driveline parts.

Agreed with most statements above. I have only ever driven manual. My father insisted and I took my driving test on one. Which I could tell was rare at the time because of the look on the face of the DMV person when they sat down haha.


Also I wanted to say thanks for this thread guys. Has alot of good information and I am sure I will be coming back to it in the future. 120K and original clutch. No slip for now.

Agreed....when I bought my 2002 Export CRD Sport new in May 2002 the manual Transmission was all that was available at the time.

I would love to rather be driving a 2006 CRD with auto transmission but I cannot afford to trade up...my trusty 2002 manual will have to last me forever hopefully! :hmm:

Slight hijack, I have a 2002 KJ, 3.7, manual and I am trying to find a flywheel. My throw out bearing went out and the shop I am having do the work said the flywheel is shot. They can't find a replacement anywhere and I must admit I am struggling to myself.

That *****, it's the same issue I went through when I got mine replaced. I seriously got the last one that was in North America at the time. :shrug:

Yes, there are options....try the Centerforce and Luk websites for starters....

If you could provide the link to the respective flywheels I'd appreciate it. I can't seem to find them on either of the suggested sites.

Yeah I've looked at going used and I guess that's the route I'll go if I can't source a new one.

Try ebay - that's where I got a used one, it's still in my basement since I didn't need it.
