confused about compressor directions

im gonna install my rebuilt ac compressor today and i know i was told it was ok to just install it and then drive it to have the system vacuumed/recharged.

but i just want to make sure i dont lock the compressor up or cause the people who recharge the system to have to pull it back off to do something i overlooked. im mostly referring to the oil that the directions speak of.
ive posted a link to the directions where it speaks of this. do i just install it AFTER turning the hub 10-12 times, and allowing it to set for 1-3 minutes with the front seal down....and thats good enough to drive to a shop?

OR do I do just that, but yet need to add more oil to it first?


im confused a bit. is the lube or ICE32 thats already in it enough, or do i also need to add more oil BEFORE installing, or not at all?

and if so which is the suction side of the compressor and which is the low side of the accumulator?

According to your manual you need to fill it with oil ( did that come with your new compressor?) before you fit it. The ICE32 imo is a little lube to prevent corrosion while it's stored/shipped.

no oil came with it. i wasnt sure if that was enough , or i need to add more. upon reading it again, i think it does mean to add oil before installing it.

ive read that 8 oz is the right amount. so i guess 4 oz in the compressor and 4 in the accumulator.

cant install today though because it raining hard. maybe tomorrow.

i guess all compressor oil is the same? maybe the parts store can help me out there.

All compressor oil is not the same, The KJ takes pag 46 oil, The correct way to know how much oil to add is to measure what was drained from your old compressor and then add that amount.

A little to much wont' hurt the system.

just got done doing it. seems there was almost no oil in the old compressor (as in literally an ounce that came out) and the main hub was pretty hard to turn by hand and very rough and gritty feeling.. i know its had 85,000 miles on it, but i now wonder if the body shop that fixed the jeep last month which had a crushed front end, didnt do the refill right. who knows?? either way its getting vacuumed/recharged monday.

Actually it takes SP-10 PAG oil.

Just checked again and found the Liberty does take PAG 46 while many other Mopars take PAG 100.

I would also make sure you run a vacuum pump on the system and purge the charging hose before charging to make sure no - non condensables get into the system.

I work as a HVAC tech. so I have access to a refrigerant scale and add the exact amount, I,ve found many people over or under charge the system. good luck adam..

Actually the '02 KJ's compressor uses SP-10 PAG oil,right from the '02 FSM
available, and each
contains a different additive package. The PXF–18
compressor used in this vehicle is designed to use an
SP–10 PAG refrigerant oil.

It depends on the compressor used to the type of PAG oil needed.This is from the '06 FSM.............
There are different PAG oils available, and each contains a different additive package. Use only refrigerant oil of the
same type as recommended to service the refrigerant system (always refer to the specification tag included with
the replacement A/C compressor or the A/C Underhood Specification Label located in the engine compartment).
The Denso 10S17 A/C compressor used in this vehicle when equipped with the 2.8L diesel engine is designed to
use ND-8 PAG refrigerant oil. Use only this type of refrigerant oil when servicing this A/C compressor.
The Visteon HS-18 A/C compressor used in this vehicle when equipped with 3.7L engine is designed to use VC-46
PAG refrigerant oil. Use only this type of refrigerant oil when servicing this A/C compressor.

It depends on the compressor used to the type of PAG oil needed.This is from the '06 FSM.............

I believe SP 10 is the correct type of oil but the viscocity is pag46, From the few liberty's I/ve worked on the pag46 was what was recommended from both sanden and aftermarket unit's.
