On a trip in a new to us jeep and engine fan is not coming on. Fuse is ok Went to change relay but part store version doesn't match what I pulled
One on it all the pins go in the same direction The parts house one has one pin going in a different direction

Is there more than one relay

my sense is that the TIPM (black box) has multiple relays all identical - in a pinch borrow one from a less important circuit. They are NOT directional (truly). I went thru something similar last year.

It's also possible the fan is bad? Have you tried direct power to it? Happened to me before on a trip as well.

You can also add a mechanical fan to the kk very easily. I believe they came on the version with the tow package. I added one to my sport since I sometimes run trails in the desert in summer. It’s an easy upgrade that adds redundancy even if you fix the electric fan.

There is a fuse in the power distro center on driver side at the front the engine compartment. Check that 1st, because that's the cheapest easiest possible solution.

If the fuse is ok, go to next cheapest/easiest solution... the engine fan uses an in-line relay/regulator that has a heat-sing stuck on top of it. If this relay dies, the fan stops working but the fan itself is perfectly fine. The location is the inside wall of the left front wheel well (driver side), below the power distro center (fuse box) and attached to the wall of the engine compartment.

In fact, this voltage regulator is what controls the engine fan turing on and off as the engine gets hotter or cools off. If your engine fan stops working or starts behaving badly, the fan is probably ok and this heat-sink equipped regulator relay is probably bad... so try running a bypass around this regulator to see if the fan works without it and if so replace the regulator (about $25 at AZ).

If neither of the cheap solutions work, you have a truly dead fan.

Check your electric cooling fan by starting the engine and turning on the AC to full blast cold. That should kick the fan on. If the fan comes on then it's a problem in the coolant temperature monitoring system.
