Check with Mountainman on LOSTJEEPS for parts. He might have a good used piston&liner. CaptainDean's clinking&clanking thread has great pictures and advice on the inside of these engines.

i just found upon further inspection that the liner in cylinder #2 is cracked from the impact
I thought it might be, that's a heavy impact. I would definitely replace the rod on that cylinder too.

Are there any concerns about only replacing one piston, liner, and rod, instead of replacing all of them? Will that affects compressions or engine balance? Also where do I find a new crankshaft pulley with an intact harmonic balancer?

I think vm motori offered a rod-piston-liner kit just to repair one cylinder.

Try damperdoctor.com?

I don't think swapping out one will be an issue.

I’ve found that all of the parts are available from Sasquatch parts or IDparts. If I have to rebuild my engine, I want it to last for a long time so I want to build it as best as I can

Does anyone have a thread they can recommend that has info on how to rebuild the CRD engine? Either here or on lost jeeps? I’ve got the engine down to the block, and I’ve just removed the block. I want to find some resources before I open the bottom end

The factory manual has a lot of information on the engine, make sure you pin the balance shafts for reassembly.

Where can I get a service manual? I think I’ve seen links for manuals posted here before.

CaptainDean on LOSTJEEPS has an excellent thread with many photos of CRD guts.

The factory service manual is best used in it's digital form; not as good in print. I have the print version with hundreds of post-it notes marking pages. It's written in "click here" format which defies normal indexing and referencing.

Good luck with your rebuild!

I’ve mentioned this before in previous posts, but my 05 CRD has developed a bad rattling noise. It’s gotten drastically worse over the weekend and after inspecting it today it sounds like it’s either the oil pump or the fuel pump. Since I’m still getting oil pressure and my engine hasn’t blown up, I think my cp3 is dying. From all of the symptoms that I’ve read about it send to match well. Any idea on how to prove/test this?
You may want to check the alternator pulley have some one start it while you watch it if it's like my 06 you won't believe what you see .

The engine rattle turned out to be a failed harmonic balancer. Made terrible noise but made no difference to the engines performance. Unfortunately I never found out until after my engine grenade-ed

Did you get it rebuilt in the end?

I just started a new thread to discuss this. Hopefully I can find some answers soon

Did the AC compressor being turned on and turned off make any difference in the screeching clicking sound ? and did it sound similar to the roller bearing balls slamming into one another is that the noise yours made? Because this one goes from sounding fine to sounding similar to a seizing bearing that has a few rollers missing.

I don’t remember exactly, because I wasn’t using the ac back in the spring when it quit. I did take the serpentine belt off and it didn’t change anything.
