Just bought a 2004 liberty/cherokee in the UAE. Here all the cars have a chime at 120kph. I know its a long shot, but does anyone here know how to disable it on an 04 liberty?

Thanks
Wolf

Don't speed!!! Umm I would assume there is a module or something under the dash? Maybe try google if you can't come up with anything here. You'll probably want to broaden your search into the Cherokees and wranglers for your search, that may help.

What is the speed limit over there? Obviously high enough that the chime is becomming an annoyance eek2.gif

I would also look under the dash. If its a separate signal from the speedo to the computer, then it's an easy fix (but a needlessly complicated design). If it's all in the computer programming...then it's going to be quite a bit more complicated.

Worse case scenario, disable the audible chime, but leave the light so you know when something else is trying to get your attention.

I would assume it is just like the other chimes on these KJs (seatbelt, fuel light etc) it may tell you how to disable it in the owners manual (provided you have the original)

It is programmed in your PCM I believe. So, well...no lol. My father in law has a TJ that a us marine bought over there and brought back here and same thing. Nothing he can do, well a dealership can reprogram it but most do not know how. Sorry. You can try a dealership but no guarantees.

yeah, the manual has nothing, from what ive read i have to get in good with the dealer and they will flash my firmware to another country. im gonna take it in to do the plugs, cables and oil up my diffs. im hoping that will be enough money spent to fix me up. if not ill be taking the dash apart. i cant deal with that chime. people go 180 here. i dont even feel safe going 119kph.

So we have established that it is in the PCM? Could you just swap a PCM from another country? The last car I had I swapped my PCM because I was told it was bad (stupidly enough it wasn't) but I didn't have 1/2 the electronics that my lib has. I don't know the cost of getting the flash or how much it would cost to buy a PCM but let us know what works out for you.

Haha. Good luck, and it was just an idea... The only thing I have swapped on mine is the wheels. I couldn't tell you the first thing about my jeeps electronics.

even from ebay, the pcms gonna have to be programmed with your VIN and ODO in order to function

probably the quickiest and dirtiest solution would to put a switch inline to the chime so you can turn it off when you want and leave it on when you don't

B&G is the only place I'm aware of that reprograms the 3.7 modules other than the dealer, mine doesn't chime, no idea if it did before I sent it to B&G

sorry, all i can think is an interrupt on the chime itself as a workable solution given your location

That sounds like your best resolution, I always buckle up anyways so I never hear the seatbelt chime.
