DIY transmission flush?

There are no special instructions in the 2007 owner's manual stating a relearn needs to be done o the PCM after a fluid/filter change. All it says is to use to proper fluid and Mopar filter.

There is no specific mention of a fluid flush. It is just mentioned to drain and refill the fluid. The manual does not even list the automatic transmission fluid capacity. It just says to go by the dipstick.

From the 2007 owner's manual:
Drain and refill the automatic transmission fluid. Replace main
sump filter and spin-on cooler return filter (if equipped).

Wonder why a Chrysler transmission would ever need to "relearn" anyway. It's not like they had any good knowledge to begin with. :gr_grin:

Ive never really understood the point of flushing a transmission. Just change the fluid and filter and it will last as long as its destined to last. Flushing it will not do anything magical, transmission fluid is a high detergent fluid so it will keep it clean if you just change the fluid.

And I agree with the learning. The programming of the KJ's transmission is easily the worst programming Ive seen. The transmission ruins the KJ IMHO.

I should have clarified, I am not necessarily looking to use any type of cleaner additive for the "flush". In this instance I am using "flush" in place of saying "complete fluid replacement", I want to get all (or most of) the fluid out of the transmission and have clean/new fluid, instead of just replacing what is in the pan.

There are a few videos out there changing out all the fluid for new fluid using the transmission cooler return line. The video I wanted had the tech put the transmission in neutral while the engine was running to cycle the fluid. It was on a Dodge Ram so it probably holds true for any Jeep automatic as well.

If I end up doing this myself as well, I will probably buy a transmission pan with a drain plug to make it less messy. Rock Auto has one for $25 so that seems worth it to me.
