Sounds like your homelink buttons don't have anything programmed to them. When you are hitting the buttons, you are putting it into learning mode and it's waiting to receive a signal from another remote to store in its memory.

More on HomeLink training.

If you read the instructions, it will say to hold both the garage door opener button AND the desired Homelink button. "Training" will show up, and hold both until "Trained" appears. Make SURE you are holding the garage door opener 1-2 inches from the EVIC.

I had the same problem you had, and it took me forever to figure out what was going on because it would never say "Trained". I figured it out though....if you read the instructions it says "Make sure your seperate garage door opener has fresh batteries"

I researched and found out that the transmitter in the EVIC is very strong, but its receiver is weak. If your batteries in your garage opener are even used a little bit, its signal is much reduced and it makes it difficult to train it.

Change your batteries on your transmitter, it will make all the difference
