I have a 2002 KJ limited and periodically I get some fumes in the car that kinda smell like exhaust. I've been looking for exhaust leaks but have found no signs of them. I was replacing my glass struts for the rear hatch and found that the glass doesn't completely seal off in the corners. Does anyone else have this issue and if you do, do you notice any fumes in the cabin. Pics are attached.

Do you ever put anything on the seals ?
Every oil change I coat mine with syl glide , keeps them soft/pliable etc and sealed well
On a customers I installed some seals I found on line that is about 1/4 inch thick/ 1/4 inch wide, they have adhesive on the back
and sealed up areas that were getting weak
I have never had any issues with any of my KJs with exhaust

You will likely not be able to get that seal back to doing its job. Time to replace it.

I just bought it a few weeks ago. I just didn't know if this was by design. The part of the seal that is not making contact is the smaller, hollow part in the corners.

Just a thought..You could try adding some sort of double sided adhesive foam tape. Possibly even on glass side to try to seal up corners?
It may place a bit more inwards pressure to seal.
The outside of tape is not sticky, if you don't peel that protective layer off.
You can also make it double thick etc to seal better...

In 04 factory service manual, flip up glass section, making proper adjustments are mentioned as well.

That is most certainly not by design. I bet that lets a lot of noise in also.

Not sure what would cause that, mine seals nice and tight.
