Hi, all - I installed the Factory Fog Light kit, from Chrysler on my '03, since it didn't have any. It comes complete with wiring loom, etc, but doesn't connect quite like the factory installed.

My question is to any who have installed it. The instructions were followed, but the fog lights ONLY light with the headlights on, low beam. The factory ones light light with low beams on, but ALSO when just the running lights are turned on. Mine don't light with running lights only.

Does anyone have a "fix" for this? I'd like them to come on with running lights as well as low beam.

Thanks in advance!!

It's normal as you describe. They are designed to come on with low beam only....

mine will work with just the parking lights on...but yes, if you have the headlights on then they only work with low beam.

Right, that's how they work if wired with them from the factory. Something is different with the kit from Chrysler, that adds them after the fact, that they don't work with just the parking lights. That's what I want them to do, just wondering if anyone else had the same thing, and had come up with a cure.

Thanks,

Roger

I see what you are saying rcav8or, you want the fog lights on when you only have the parking lights on. I do that alot so I can understand your frustration.

My fog lights came stock so I cannot help you. Im sure we could be of more help if we had a wiring diagram of the fog lights...

Good day,
I've got an '04 and it doesn't have the fog lights either so I don't know if they light as you describe or not. Also, I have these lights on the "To do list"
I will make an educated guess here as a possible solution. I know that with my other vehicles fog lights, I can have just the marker/parking lights on or with the low beams. Mind you they are Bosch lights and wiring harness. So, based on this system, the trigger wire that turns the relay on and off when you flip the switch is tapped into the marker/parking light circuit and not the headlamp low beam circuit. I imagine that if you were to disconnect the wire from the head lamp/low beam and switch it over to the marker/parking light circuit your fog lights will illuminate as desired.
If you look at this diagram on page 5of 7 window 16,17,18.
http://www.jeepkj.com/forumpics/pdf/mopar_jeep_liberty_foglight_install.pdf
It shows where you tap into and solder "A"-VT from fog light harness and splice into the "VT" wire on the head lamp plug. I would locate the wire for your Marker light and try a temporary connection and see if your fog lights illuminate, if so, I personally would use a 3M inline crimp aposed to cutting up the factory loom. This will also allow you to run them with your high beams on. I don't know about where you live, but that is not leagal where I live.

Hope that helps.

Pretty much sums it up. Just tap the parking light wires instead of the low beam headlight wire.

Yeah, that's pretty much what I figured. I'll probably add another relay, using the normally closed contacts, activated by the high-beam, so that they will go off when I go to high. I'm pretty sure it's illegal here in Indiana, to have them on with high beams, too.

I was hoping someone had figured out a different way.

I wrote DC a nastygram about this awhile back and never heard back. Basically I wanted them to pay & supply me with whatever I needed to make it work the way it would from the factory, because there was no indication anywhere in their lovely instructions that it would work any other way.

I've not heard anything back, and I'm pretty much over it... I may connect it up to the markers at some point, but they work. :)

I would imagine that there's probably extensive wiring involved - my buddy's '03 with factory, you can hear the relay click down by the fuse panel inside, when you turn the lights on. I didn't want to tear his panel down, to see where it all is, but it's always a LOT easier wiring at the factory ).

I think the added relay would be the way to go, and is probably somewhat how it is done in the factory loom. Don't know why most of the stuff wouldn't have been in place, if they had planned for someone to add lights - perhaps it was an afterthought?
