Has anyone made a aftermarket fiberglass top to replace the skyslider

Not that I have heard. But it would be a good option for a lot of KK’s if you wanted to design one!

Model it after a fold away tonneau cover, or even a canvas one, so is could still be opened. There used to be a aftermarket kit for vintage vw bugs that turned the whole roof into a rag top.

Years ago I had a '50 Jeepster that I turn over in a ditch one night. Had just rained so the ground was soft. Not much damage to the body, but ruined the top/top bows. Luckily I worked in a fiberglass shop so a couple of friends and I designed and built a 'glass top. Looked pretty cool when finished. Made it as a lift off top so still had the convertible option.
Check out You Tube Matt's Off Road Recovery channel. His son Rudy has been upgrading his copper colored XJ known as "1/2 DONE". On (one) of the recoveries in the last 2 weeks (early to mid April), Rudy showed where he cut the KJ top and put latches inside to remove it when he wants to. They didn't go into much detail and it is not finished so I assume he will be posting more of it as progress continues.
Rudy also announced that he is starting his own channel (seperate from his dad and the whole recovery gang). It will focus on fabrication and upgrades. He will probably post the rest of the 1/2 DONE XJ work there including the removal top. Or drop him an email. Might be a good place to start. But be warned, they all do a lot of cutting, tacking and welding. But it might give you an idea of how to replace your roof. You also might want to look at some VW Dune Buggy forums. They do all things fiberglass and get ready creative with body mods. Another thought is a salvage yard like an old Bronco or Jeep with removal top. (IF) you can find a top large enough and with the right curves, you might be able to cut to fit and save having to make the panel yourself. But if you do the Rudy method (steel instead of fiberglass), you might have to cut the roof off a wrecked Liberty.
Back in the day, van lovers used to cut the roof off of a Vista Cruiser station wagon and weld them on top of a full sized van so they had the upper windows. If you grab a Liberty roof, it would be the perfect time to install an aftermarket sun/moon roof. I wonder if you can install a salvage yard headliner too? I would sure like to see what you come up with.

I found an 08 liberty at the local car lot 140 thousand miles for 8 grand not sure but I think it has the sky liner or whatever it's called roof I hear bad thing's about this option ?

What about the mileage at 140 thousand miles I'm concerned about the timing chain being worn out or at least close to it? I guess buying used cars your just buying someone else's problems. Lol
The sky slider is a time bomb. Best case is $3000 to repair it. Worst case (likely) is no parts available and can’t be fixed.
140K is low mileage for an 08. Only 10K per year. The average American drives 15K in a year.

My 04 I bought new has over 233,000 and still runs strong , rarely ever hear of any timing chain issues over the last almost 20 years
Watched Rudys vid last evening on his Youtuber channel
While it seems like a good idea, he has to run without a headliner , which to him means nothing
But for a more finished look, I am sure someone could come up with one that attaches to removeable part, then Velcro's to the existing outer areas
Also would not make it as big as his.
Of course with the existing ( HOLE ) just get a junk yard top, cut to size and go !!!
